The effects of apple cider vinegar are supposedly life-changing. Thousands of people claim that it’s helped them reduce loads of weight, made them feel lighter and healthier, uplifted moods, helped with sleep and much more. The irony is though, that there is very little scientific proof that apple cider vinegar does all this! This confused me because if so many people have benefited from consuming it, there had to be some truth to it. Hence, I decided, as my New Year’s resolution, to consume ACV for two weeks and bear witness to the effects myself.
(FYI, I did not do this to lose a lot of weight or attain any sort of “model-like” body. Nor did I do it to impress anybody or show it off on social media! I did it for fun and as an experiment only)
How I Consumed Apple Cider Vinegar:
I purchased a bottle of ACV which had “The Mother” in it. The mother is essentially strands of bacteria that help ferment it and give it a murky look. I took 1 tablespoon with hot water and honey twice a day- on an empty stomach early morning and half an hour before dinner at night. FYI, I did ask my doctor before taking this on and all she told me was not to take more than 2 tablespoons a day and to always dilute it as AVC can burn your insides (why exactly am I consuming it willingly?). She also advised me to thoroughly gargle after drinking it as it can erode your teeth (again, why exactly am I consuming it willingly?).
My Experience With The Popular Effects Of Apple Cider Vinegar:
1. The Taste
In case you were wondering, it tastes nothing like apples. It smells very pungent and I recommend not smelling it before. It didn’t taste great either, hence I had to had a little bit of honey to it. With the honey, it was bearable and tasted like a strange version of lemonade. I highly recommend having it with a straw so that it goes straight down your throat without coming in contact with your front teeth.
2. Weight Loss
Apple cider vinegar is infamous for its effect on a person’s weight. It is apparently a magic weight-loss pill! So, did I lose any weight? The answer is, no. I didn’t lost any weight whatsoever. This didn’t surprise me as much because there is literally no scientific evidence that ACV aids weight loss or speeds up your metabolism. If someone claims to have loss weight because of ACV, I can assure you that it’s because they’re eating healthier and working out regularly and not because of drinking apple cider vinegar. Since I didn’t change my diet or workout schedule, I lost no weight at all. So, if you’re ultimate goal is to get a body like Deepika Padukone‘s, exercise and eat healthier instead of drinking ACV.
3. Appetite Suppressor
Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to make you feel full faster and suppress your appetite. This is false. I drank it before dinner for two weeks and my plate was as full as it used to be pre-ACV. It did not change my appetite in any way. This does make sense though because according to this article published by Harvard Medical School, ACV was proven to speed up metabolism and suppress appetites in mice, which is a long way from proving any effectiveness in humans.
4. Improved Skin
I can definitely say that consuming apple cider vinegar for two weeks did make my skin better. My skin’s texture improved, those little bumps disappeared and it looked healthier. My skin was genuinely glowing. ACV did help my skin and it is the one visible effect it had on me.
5. Reduced Bloating
Although I did feel significantly less bloated over the past two weeks, I don’t know it I can attribute it to the apple cider vinegar entirely. However, I do believe the ACV is partly to blame. I felt lighter and as the popular expression goes, had a “spring in my step”. Personally, I bloat a lot on my face and I noticed waking up with a half-moon face instead of a full-moon face. So yes, I did like this effect a lot.
