Having a healthy sex drive is linked to feeling physically and emotionally healthy, so it’s no surprise that the foods one eats play an important role in boosting the sex life. A nutritious diet can benefit the sex life in many ways like improving blood flow, heart health, and improving one’s stamina. Eating a diet rich in vegetables and lean proteins and low in foods that contain sugar and saturated fat can also help to prevent disorders that affect metabolic syndrome and hormonal conditions.
And so, we spoke to Rohit Shelatkar, a fitness and nutrition expert, and asked him about foods that can help improve one’s sex life. And here’s what he suggested one should consume!
1. Beetroot
Beetroots are rich in antioxidants and vitamins, making a healthy addition to any diet. They’re also high in dietary nitrates, which means they could help boost the sex life. Dietary nitrates expand the blood vessels, which improves blood flow. Beetroot juice can also help manage blood pressure! Researchers say this can benefit people with healthy blood pressure and those with hypertension.
2. Avocados
This green super-food is loaded with healthy fats that stimulate fat loss, balances hormones, and packs a powerful aphrodisiac effect. It is also a superfood for the brain, heart, and blood vessels. Avocados are rich in vitamin B6, potassium, and monounsaturated fats. These help to promote good circulation and a healthy heart, both a necessity for great sex life.
3. Nuts
Almonds and walnuts contain the necessary healthy fats and nutrients that are required in the production of sex hormones. Also, almonds have been described as a sexual stimulant and have also been found to reduce infertility and miscarriages. This nutrient-dense nut also provides other critical minerals like selenium and zinc and is a great source of vitamin E.
4. Watermelon
Vitamin B5 present in watermelon is vital for stress management. That’s a good thing since high-stress levels can cause both male and female libidos to plummet. Watermelon can be deemed to increase libido along with providing other B vitamins which help with sexual endurance and energy production.
5. Oysters & Fish
Oysters are extremely rich in zinc. It is essential for testosterone production and the maintenance of healthy sperm in men. They’re also equally potent for women. Oysters boost the production of dopamine, the ‘feel good’ hormone that increases libido in women. Fish like Salmon, Halibut, and Sardines contains high levels of omega 3 fatty acids. Essential fatty acids are the building blocks of sex hormones in men and women and help fight the build-up of plaque in the arteries, thereby improving circulation and increasing sensation. They help in cardiovascular health and consequently improve sexual performance.
Certain foods can put one in the mood for sex by affecting hormones, circulation, and mental stimulation. These foods have circulatory, relaxant, and muscle strengthening effects, or visual, tactile, or sensory impact that stimulates the psyche. One should consume these foods to maintain a healthy sex life!
