We all know that food poisoning is probably one of the worst things to ever go through. While many of us think that we’re taking all the necessary precautions, there are a few things that may go unnoticed. These things, however small can usually make the biggest difference in being able to stay healthy and prevent food poisoning. Here are 5 things you should keep in mind at all times.
1. Hygiene
While this is probably the most basic step, it’s something a lot of us tend to forget from time to time. When we talk about hygiene, we mean both personal hygiene and maintain hygiene when it comes to cooking your food as well. Things like washing your hands, cleaning your kitchen cloths and making sure your worktops are clean, are all things that you need to make sure you do.
2. Cooking Food
When it comes to cooking your food, you need to make sure it is well cooked and also cleaned. This is more important when you’re cooking meat. Make sure it’s not raw because that is a sure shot way of falling terribly ill. Considering it’s the monsoons, make sure you clean your veggies properly as well.
3. Types Of Food
When eating out, there are a lot of factors that come into play. Firstly, avoid raw meat, especially sushi and other seafood. Also, it’s best to avoid pre-made salads and other raw dishes when ordering out. The monsoon is when most food poisoning cases are reported. So think about what you’re ordering for and more importantly, where you’re ordering from.
4. Storing Food
When storing your food, make sure you always cover it and always refrigerate food you’re keeping overnight. Also, it’s advisable to keep routine checks on expiry dates and constantly clean out your storage spaces. Also, don’t leave things in your fridge for more than a day. If something tastes off, discard it immediately.
5. Places To Avoid
Alright, it goes without saying that you need to avoid street food as much as possible. The monsoon is one of the worst times to even consider it. So, find alternatives to your cravings! Also, if you’re not sure about a place or you’re trying a new place, read up on the reviews about it. There are plenty of apps out there that can point you in the right direction. Also, the hygiene standard of a place is something that you should always take into consideration. Check your plates and cutlery as well.
While some of these tips might seem pretty basic, you’d be surprised just how much we take them for granted. It literally takes about 5 minutes to check things out. So, take the time to do that. Do you have some handy tips? Let us know in the comments below.
