The famous celebrity chef and television personality Anthony Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room earlier today. The initial reports that have come from CNN state that the 61 one-year-old may have committed suicide. Bourdain, who was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, Parts Unknown, was found unresponsive in his hotel room on Friday morning.
A statement released by CNN said;
It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.
Not only was Anthony an amazing television personality, he was also a best-selling food, fiction and nonfiction author. He was a true master of his crafts, in both, the kitchen and also the media. With his amazing show, he explored the human condition and helped change audiences perception about food, travel and even themselves. In his time, he literally won every award that the industry had to offer. His show No Reservations was an absolute favourite of ours and millions of others.
On Tuesday, fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her apartment, after she hung herself. There seems to be an alarming rate of suicide-related deaths and it doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon. Anthony was someone who made us fall in love with food, travel and adventure and we’re honestly heartbroken with this news. We wish his family strength during this time and hope that his soul finds peace.
Many of us don’t seem to realise how serious of a problem mental health has become. We urge that if you need to talk about how you’re feeling, reach out to someone. If someone reaches out to you, hear them because that could be a cry for help.
