Even though our eyes are one of the most powerful tools of the body, they are extremely sensitive. Especially to the sun, dust and of course, our computer screens. Other than getting your eyes checked every year, there are many ways to take care of your eyes on a daily basis. Here are a few simple things you could do.
1. Get Enough Sleep
Our eyes get very exhausted as they are the most active parts of the human body and hence, need to rest. It is important to sleep well for your eyes to recharge.
2. Blink Enough
Blinking enough and frequently will ensure your eyes remain hydrated and not dry up.
3. Take Frequent Breaks From Looking At Your Computer Screen
Your eyes tend to get tired and dry due to long hours spent staring at a computer screen. Every 20 minutes, make sure to take a break from the screen, look at an object that’s about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This is called the 20-20-20 rule for a healthy eyesight.
4. Maintain A Healthy Diet
Eating green, leafy vegetables is very good for the eyes. You could also consume nuts and fish for good eyesight.
5. Drink A Lot Of Water
Good amount of water intake will keep the eyes hydrated and avoid dryness.
6. Wear UV Protected Sunglasses
The sun emits ultraviolet rays that are very harmful to the eyes. Lucky for us, most sunglasses are UV protected so make sure you get those sunnies only.
7. Quit Smoking
Smoking is already very harmful to the body. It could cause cancer and other such fatal diseases. But other than that, people who smoke often have a greater risk of developing age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, uveitis and other eye problems.
You could also practice regular eye exercises that are good for healthy sight. These small steps could lead to a healthier vision in the long run.
