Over the years, Kajol has built a legacy that very few in Bollywood can match. From making audiences laugh as the quirky star to delivering powerful performances that proved her versatility, Kajol has continuously redefined what it means to be a successful actress. She’s been a true game-changer in the Indian film industry, breaking stereotypes, choosing roles ahead of their time, and showing that actresses can lead films just as strongly as their male counterparts.

While shooting for the MissMalini podcast Y So Serious?!, Kajol was asked about her take on stardom today. Known for her honest and thoughtful opinions, she offered a grounded and insightful perspective:
“Now, it is going to be very difficult to become a star in this day and age. I think, somewhere down the line, social media is great; it’s a fabulous tool. But the simple fact of the matter is that today, people go into movies to watch films. They are not going to watch stars.
If they want to watch a star, the latest good-looking one or whatever, they’ll go to their social media. They’re not going to go to a cinema hall. And that’s the difference with stars today.
So it’s very difficult. Yes, it’s easy, very easy, to become famous. But to be a star today is, I would say, 9 on 10 impossible.”

Her take is almost accurate, as we’ve seen with many new-generation actors who gain quick fame online but struggle to command the same presence or long-term audience loyalty on the big screen. Stardom today requires more than just talent; it demands timing, presence, and an emotional connection with the audience that can’t be built overnight.
Throughout her career, Kajol has shared screen space with some of the biggest male superstars in the country, from Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar to her husband, Ajay Devgn. With a diverse body of work that includes timeless classics and bold new roles, she continues to stay relevant across generations.

Up next, fans will see her in an exciting project titled ‘Sarzameen’ alongside South superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran and actor Ibrahim Ali Khan.
