‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ has captivated audiences with its engaging storyline and strong performances from Raghav Juval and Kritika Kamra. Fans have been enthusiastic about the show, creating buzz online and eagerly discussing its twists and turns. Guneet Monga, one of the creative minds behind the series, has shared exclusive insights with MissMalini about its impact and audience reception.
Guneet Monga discussed how the series blends sci-fi elements with grounded storytelling, making it both magical and accessible. She mentioned…
Everyone said that sci-fi wouldn’t land at mass scale in India, that it would never resonate here. But I’m a huge fan of Mr. India. Many years ago, Mr. India was a grounded sci-fi film that connected with mass audiences. It had a little bit of magic, while the story was emotional and everything else. Even with this series, there’s that little bit of magic. It’s not something that constantly bends reality, but just that little touch of magic. I think that’s the power of storytelling—you can tell a story, connect timelines, and yet not confuse people. We designed the series in a way that made it accessible, like colouring and shooting the two timelines differently, giving each a distinct tint. It was all about landing it and keeping it grounded and accessible, that was always the goal. Audiences are used to seeing shows like Dark and other big titles because mystery is a very popular genre on OTT—it keeps people hooked at home. So, you have to surprise them, do something new, and push the conversation forward. With a bit of sci-fi, the mystery thrill, and a regular police procedural, this show became compelling to tell in the OTT landscape in India.
The response to ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans engaging deeply with the show’s complexities. Monga expressed her satisfaction, noting…
I really loved seeing all the fan videos and the support for Gyaarah Gyaarah online. I was hoping for all this to happen, so I’m very grateful for that. It’s amazing to see people discussing the performances and the cliffhangers, especially the messages I’ve received from around the world asking how we even ended there and what happens next. There were a lot of conversations about the timeline, which I was really hoping for, and I was really hoping that the climax would land. So, to see what we discussed in our rooms—the background score, the writing, the cliffhangers, the performances—is resonating with people is very heartening to hear.
I agree with Monga’s perspective on the series. The fusion of sci-fi with accessible storytelling indeed sets ‘Gyaarah Gyaarah’ apart, making it a significant contribution to the genre in Indian cinema. The show’s intriguing blend of sci-fi and mystery has clearly resonated with audiences.
