His father, David Dhawan, shared some amusing insights about Varun’s debut, revealing that Varun was upset about sharing the screen with Sidharth Malhotra.
David Dhawan recently appeared on Arbaaz Khan’s talk show, ‘The Invincibles Series’, where he reminisced about Varun Dhawan‘s unexpected career path. Initially, Varun seemed set on a banking career, but everything changed when he approached Karan Johar out of the blue and expressed his desire to work in films. “Varun came back from abroad and told Karan, ‘I want to assist you.’ Karan, familiar with our family, took him on for ‘My Name is Khan’, and cameraman Ravi Chandran noticed Varun’s potential,” David shared. He also recounted Varun’s insecurities during the filming of ‘Student of the Year’. Karan Johar had decided to launch Varun and arranged a photoshoot with Sidharth Malhotra, which left Varun feeling insecure about sharing the screen. David recalled, “Varun would sometimes be upset about working with Sidharth. I told him, ‘In two-hero films, this happens. But you have incredible confidence. Don’t be afraid, take the leap.”
Despite his initial sadness, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra turned out to be a fantastic on-screen duo in ‘Student of the Year’, captivating audiences with their chemistry and performances. Their collaboration marked the beginning of successful careers for both actors.
