We all have a sweet image of Shah Rukh Khan etched in our minds, as he’s been charming us with his romantic roles for so many years now. But it was in ‘Anjaam’, ‘Darr’, ‘Baazigar’, and ‘Don’ that we saw him portraying a negative character on screen, giving us a glimpse of his diverse acting range. In an old interview from 2013, Shah Rukh Khan opened up on the reactions he got after playing a villainous role in ‘Baazigar’. Here’s what Shah Rukh Khan had to say…
In conversation with Forbes, Shah Rukh Khan revealed what people told him after playing a negative role in ‘Baazigar’. “In the long run, everything is sustainable. It’s a strange thing that I’m saying. But I don’t think short term. I have this belief. It could be because I’ve had repeated failures in the past. And then, I have taken high-end risks and succeeded in them. Like everyone told me, my career was over when ‘Baazigar’ released. My best well-wishers told me my career is over; you can’t be a hero again after you’ve killed a woman. But it paid off. In the long run, everything is sustainable, if you stick to it,” Shah Rukh Khan shared. Well, SRK definitely deserves appreciation for believing in his craft and being consistent in delivering great performances, whether he plays the role of a hero or a villain.
The 1993 romantic thriller ‘Baazigar’ directed by Abbas-Mustan was the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of that year. Starring an ensemble cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Shilpa Shetty, Dalip Tahil, Johnny Lever, and Siddharth Ray, the commercially successful film is still remembered fondly for its riveting storyline and catchy songs.
