Social media platform TikTok is an emerging ground for new beauty trends, several of which have made headlines in the past. So many trends like latte makeup, strawberry makeup, and espresso makeup have been favorites among fashionistas, and now a new technique called oil gritting has been in the news for quite some time as it’s associated with removing blackheads. Here’s what we know about the oil gritting method:
Oil gritting is a new skincare trend that involves using oil to massage your face for five to 15 minutes, which is supposed to bring the oil deposits back to the surface of your skin, meaning the sebaceous filaments will get exfoliated with the face oil massage. As per TikTok users, after you wash off the accumulated grainy particles (sebaceous filaments), you’ll achieve smooth and clear blackhead-free skin; however, there’s limited scientific evidence to support the theory.
The oil gritting method is all about using face oil or oil-based cleansers on the face for a few minutes in circular motions until you feel oil grits coming out. While the ‘oil gritting’ viral hack sounds interesting, I would personally not recommend this technique if you have acne-prone skin, as excess oil can clog pores and lead to breakouts.
