There are romantic comedies and then there are futuristic romantic comedies – the former done enough number of times, while the latter has been explored in Indian cinema arena before. Reminder: ‘Love Story 2050’, ‘Robot’, ‘2.0’. ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aise Uljha Jiya’ starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Dimple Kapadia, Dharmendra, does try as a movie to showcase the unconventional love story between a human and a robot with its sets of pros and cons… but hello! what about LOGIC?
The plot revolves around Aryan (Shahid Kapoor), a tech programmer, who works for Urmila’s (Dimple Kapadia) US-based robotics company. Things take quite a turn when the ‘Aryan’ goes to the US after much nudging from Urmila. This visit which was supposed to be a ‘take a break’ opportunity is actually a test for ‘Sifra’ (Kriti Sanon), a robot, and how she is just wonderfully advanced that even a techie like ‘Aryan’ cannot make out the difference between a human and a robot… QUITE LITERALLY! ‘Aryan’ falls in love with ‘Sifra’, eventually gets to know she’s a robot because her battery dies, gets heartbroken and feels disappointed with ‘Urmila’, comes back to India, still cannot get over her, convinces ‘Urmila’ to send ‘Sifra’ to India, and is all set to marry her. And, of course, all hell starts to break loose as the cons of a Robot start to show comically.
When watching a film based heavily dependent on logic, the logic aspect of this movie seems to have gone out the window in some parts… like the intimate scene… how… just how? Sign me up for a Robotics for Dummies class please that explains this well! The way ‘Sifra’s eating food trick is broken down, makes much sense, the kissing moment is explained too. But the getting intimate moment, could’ve been left out IMO.

Shahid Kapoor adds life to his character in the comical bits of the movie with the ‘Sasha charm’ intact, otherwise ‘Aryan’s character doesn’t really stay with you. Kriti Sanon shines in the movie as ‘Sifra’, the attention to detail with her body language, walking style, way of talking is worth a mention. The last 30 minutes of the film has Kriti sailing the TBMAUJ boat like a bawse of a captain… and her dance to Madhuri Dixit’s ‘Dhak Dhak’ is just FAB FAB FAB! The storyline is weak which gets enhanced in parts by some comical moments, trendy songs and Shahid’s phenomenal dancing skills with Kriti being the super glue with her performance. The VFX and CGI is praiseworthy. And the cameo by an actress gathers hoots in the theatre. All in all, is this a one-time watch… YES! Do I want a second part like how the makers hinted at the end of the movie… NO!
