Kiran Rao is all set to make a comeback as a director with her upcoming film ‘Laapataa Ladies’. The plot of ‘Laapataa Ladies’ revolves around two young brides getting lost on a train. During a recent interview, Kiran Rao revealed she turned down Aamir Khan for a role in her film and also shared the reason behind it. Here’s what Kiran Rao had to say…
The plot of ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is set in 2001, somewhere in rural India, and is produced by Aamir Khan’s production house. In conversation with The Week, Kiran Rao shared how Aamir Khan had auditioned for the character of ‘Manohar’ in the film, which was eventually played by Ravi Kishan. “Aamir and I had a huge discussion on whether he should play Manohar’s character, which was played by Ravi Kishan. Aamir said, ‘I really love the character, I really want to play it.'” Kiran Rao revealed. “I feel he (Ravi Kishan) brings a complete surprise to this character because you don’t know what to expect from him. When Aamir is in a role, he sort of sets expectations for his character. Aamir was very in on that decision that Ravi can do this better and perhaps, ‘I wouldn’t do full justice to it.'” Kiran Rao added.
‘Laapataa Ladies’ marks Kiran Rao’s return as a director after 14 years. Her last directorial venture, ‘Dhobi Ghat’, was well received and appreciated by critics. ‘Laapataa Ladies’ stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Chhaya Kadam, along with Ravi Kishan. The comedy-drama film is set to release on March 1, 2024.
