Have you ever scrolled through social media so much that you have lost track of time? Have you ever stalked someone so much that you probably now know every minute detail of their life? If your answer to any of these two is yes, you sir/madam, are a social media addict and that is 90% of us. That’s the thing about social media right, it enchants us. It teleports us in the world so easily and swiftly that even before you know it, you’re lost, for hours. While the primary use of social media was to stay connected, the adverse effects have been massive and those you get to witness in Netflix’s recent release, ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan‘. The Arjun Varain Singh directorial holds a perfect mirror to the current generation that is so obsessed with everything social media has to offer.
The story is super simple, a tale of three friends, Adarsh Gourav, Ananya Panday and Siddhant Chaturvedi who are besties for life. While at the start it looks like a simple story of friendship, as you dive into the film, it starts peeling each complex layer, just like an onion and trust me when I say this, you will end up crying (internally if not out loud). While Ahana’s (Ananya) character is trying ways to get back her boyfriend, Imaad’s (Siddhant) character is a stand-up comedian who hides his pain behind humour; Neil (Adarsh) is a fitness instructor who is so good at his job and wants to make it big in the fitness industry but his following on social media doesn’t support his passion and thus begins their journey of using social media to lead the ’perfect life’. What is this perfect life and who defines it, the film beautifully answers the questions and probably gives the audience a reality check that all of us need. When we stare at our favourite social media personalities, we forget that they are just showcasing a side of their personality hiding all the things they don’t want us to see and that we end up witnessing in ‘KGHK’.
Have you ever been so jealous of someone’s life on social media that you’ve probably created a Finsta account only to blow some steam off or have you on purpose uploaded certain kinds of pictures to lure your ex back into your life, well you’ll see all of it and much more in this one and the best part of this film is that it isn’t preachy. It isn’t trying to tell you what is right or wrong, but it only wants to showcase the real world outside the reel one. While the star cast is bang on and each one of them excel at their character arc, it is the story that takes the cake. It is relate ‘Max Pro’ and by the end of it, it makes you think, a lot. That’s the great part of this one. ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ is the new age Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara of the current generation and generations to come for it is a tale that needs to be told and needs to be told right away. I’ll give this one four stars!
