The Indian film industry has been going through a significant transformation in recent years, with the rise of OTT platforms as a new medium for content consumption. In a surprising move, the highly anticipated movie ‘Pippa,’ starring Ishaan Khatter and Priyanshu Painyuli, has chosen to skip its theatrical release and premiere directly on an OTT platform. This decision marks a significant shift in the way movies are being released and consumed in India.
This film by Ronnie Screwvala is one of the two films he announced along the same patriotic theme. The second being Tejas, whose performance at the box office has been dismissive. Therefore, the makers have decided to release Ishaan’s Pippa on an OTT platform and skip a theatrical release. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the makers took this step because they believed that audiences are not stepping out for non-event films. They however believe in the content value of Pippa and think that it would work on OTT.
