Went to a warm and fuzzy friends and family preview of #ThankYouForComing courtesy Cookie Boolani tonight just shy of its India release this weekend on October 6th – and I just had to come home and tell you this:
It is beautiful to see a movie that is made with so much collective heart Karan Boolani & Rhea Kapoor take a bow 💞
It is refreshing to see that we are at FINALLY ready to normalize “girl talk” – the way that girls actually talk.
It is deeply satisfying to see relatable characters played by relatable human beings.
It is absolutely ace that we can laugh at ourselves and each other in equal measure in the hopes of developing perhaps a little more empathy in the process.
Special props to Shibani Bedi for ringing true in every scene with an understated ache that makes me want her backstory to get its own spinoff.
Sushant Divgikr you have my whole heart for slaying and playing your twin souls so honestly and epically. (Rahul & Anjali reference was high key genius.)
Dolly Singh you’re the goofy bestie each of us deserves and your dramatic wide eye is the cutest!
Shehnaaz Gill it is so brilliant that every dialogue you say rings so true to your 100% pure desi kudi persona that the world is collectively crushing on.
Natasha Rastogi you represent a new age of adulting that deserves to be less apologetic for the hand it was delt and you do it so damn well.
Personally, for me Kusha Kapila‘s brilliant “mean girl” energy deserved more screen time, but she nailed every scene. Especially in my fave Monokrom print!
Saloni Daini you were a delight to watch, can’t even imagine how hard it is for Gen Z girls in a harsh new world. Even little Kanika is played with such sincerity and gravitas that our girl tribe has in droves.
And Bhumi Pednekar, you have absolutely crushed it. I have always admired your choices and they have called you bold and brave but babe you’re a boss b*tch and I am now officially a superfan. You are giving Bridget Jones’s Diary while channeling Priyanka Chopra glam and I am here for this!
Thank You For Coming is a change in the desi girl narrative that I really hope “the nation” gets behind. I am keeping everything crossed for this one. Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh you have absolutely hit it out of the park with this screenplay and I’m still listening to Pari Hoon Main, Desi Wine and Haanji on repeat Qaran.
Congratulations team #ThankYouForComing I am so glad I came.
PS. All the boys were brilliant too but this one’s for my ladies… Anil Kapoor sir, thank you for your timeless charm and for being the best testament to how the quintessential roadside Romeo can one day also grow up and give rise to a generation of girls who run the world.
