Rajkummar Rao is known for the unique films and shows he takes up, and his versatility shines through each of them. Unlike a lot of actors, he does not shy away from taking up OTT shows and films, which have a gripping and captivating storyline. The audience has always thoroughly enjoyed him in these shows and films, and neither have they shied away from pouring their love and appreciation into these films and characters of his. On the occasion of his birthday, let’s take a look at how Rajkummar Rao successfully made a name in the industry with some of his most iconic films and shows that showcase his versatility.
1. Guns And Gulaabs
Rajukummar’s latest show on Netflix, Guns And Gulaabs seems to have taken the audience by storm. He won hearts for his role as ‘Tipu’, where we see him progress from a shy and naive mechanic to a robust gangster called ‘Paana Tipu’. He essayed the role with so much ease that one could not take their eyes off him in their series!
2. Monica O My Darling
In this comic crime thriller, Monica O My Darling we see Rajkummar Rao essaying the role of a sharp engineer who stumbles into a deadly mystery while attempting to hide his secrets through an absurd plot to kill. His character goes through a lot of turbulent times throughout the film, but it is his acting that kept me hooked.
3. Ludo
If there is one role Rajkummar Rao can play exceptionally well, it is that of a hopeless romantic and a heartbroken lover. In Ludo, the actor picked on a quirky role of a one-sided lover, Aloke, who would go to extreme lengths to please his lady love. The character may have struck a chord with many, with his innocent yet heavy determination. It surely made for a laughter riot of a film.
4. Newton
Rajkummar Rao took on the role of a clerk assigned to election duty, who would do anything to fulfil his responsibilities. The film Newton was even selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. With his acting skills, the actor once again captured the audience’s hearts. Six years down the line, this one still remains one of my favourite films of Rajkummar.
5. Badhaai Do
Many may have shied away from this role, but Rajkummar Rao is not one of them. He plays the role of a gay closeted cop in Badhaai Do, who gets into a pretend marriage with a woman who also is looking for a similar set-up as a lesbian herself. The balance of humour and emotion in his character left an impact on many as he displayed some very raw emotions through this character.
So which one out of these are you picking to rewatch today? I am sure you are spoilt for choices!
