Karan Johar marked his 25th year in Bollywood with a larger-than-life film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring the industry’s biggest stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The film had some note-worthy characters that made the film what it is. In a recent interview with Film Companion, filmmaker Karan Johar revealed how one of the characters was inspired by his childhood. It was Rani’s father’s character, Tota Roy Chowdhury, who plays the role of a Kathak dancer and is humiliated for his talents having feminine traits. Read on to know more about what Karan Johar had to say….
Karan Johar in the interview revealed that he was very effeminate during his childhood and often danced to Hindi songs in his room. His father Yash Johar was very supportive of his talents and often watched him perform and appreciated it. Karan also added how no one pointed out how it was ‘wrong’ at that time, and only when he started going to college did people point it out and laugh at him. He also mentions how he was laughed at for his body language. The line, ‘Hunar ka koi gender nahi hota’ in the film, that Tota says is something that he believed growing up and is inspired from there. The film has its moments and is a must-watch in my opinion, check out the trailer below…
It is because of characters like these that the film seems to be winning the hearts of the audiences and is also raking in great numbers at the box office. The makers also released the entire album of the film on all music streaming platforms recently, make sure you don’t miss that out!
