Karan Johar’s father, Yash Johar was one of the leading producers back in the day. He lost a lot of money in the 90s producing films on a big budget which did not do well in theatres and caused a major setback for Dharma financially. However, ‘Muqaddar Ka Faisla’ was the movie that caused the most financial loss to Yash Johar.
The film was released in 1987 and featured actors like Raj Kumar, Raj Babbar, Rakhee Gulzar, Meenakshi Sheshadri, and Tina Munim, among others. Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be a massive failure. Yash Johar faced even more difficulties when his own son Karan added to his troubles. “I didn’t even want to watch Muqaddar Ka Faisla!” Karan shared. During the same week, the film Mr India was released. Karan made it very clear that he would not miss watching Mr. India for any reason, not even to see his father’s film. This decision disappointed his father, and Karan could see the disappointment on his face. The failure of ‘Muqaddar Ka Faisla’ had a severe impact on Yash Johar’s production company, Dharma Productions, making it difficult for them to generate profits. However, in 1998, Karan Johar took charge and successfully revived his father’s film company. The turning point came with the release of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ which turned out to be a massive success.
