Imagine a soothing fusion music on the beats of Indian drums and western melodies being played in the background, beneath the Historic Gateway of India standing tall, surrounded by the warm Arabian ocean breeze. That is the tonight’s Dior show in collaboration with Chanakya Atelier, showcasing the ready to wear fall collection 2023 in Mumbai, celebrating India’s rich and art enamoured embroidery.
At the docks of Indian ocean, set in the mystique of the city of Mumbai, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director and Karishma Swali, the founder of Chanakya International knitted a love story that transcends continents and cultures, to create an art-brimming show. Tonight, the 99 models strutted the heritage pathway, turned to runway with lavish floral displays and dainty lanterns scattered around the floor and presented an array of vibrant ensembles.
Hot pink, electric violet, deep black, milky whites and vibrant neon had silhouettes crafted into flowy dresses, skirts, fusion suits and pearly jewellery. A shimmery line up decorated with 3D floral embellishments, bustiers and draped skirts, shirts paired with dhotis and a lot more was encapsulated within majestic Indian prints and enchanting styles. the makeup was kept uniformly slick and minimal yet iconic.
The tribute to the Indian embroidery, evokes nostalgia and sense of pride as the myriad of exquisite ensembles immerse in the craft that offers multifold styles and techniques with intricate details and hours of handwork. The rich fabrics with Indianness sewn to Western silhouette, was a romance filled wedding that the know-who’s of the industry got to witness tonight.
