A few days back I saw Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway on the big screen and I totally loved it. You can read my review here! What I loved the most about the film was Rani Mukerji‘s amazing performance in the titular role, but turns out a bigger fan of hers is co-star Anirban Bhattacharya who played her husband in the film. Yes, I recently spoke to Anirbhan and he was in awe of Rani and her craft, but other than that his journey with this Ashima Chibber directorial was also very special. Like he says it had a lot of firsts for him, and after seeing his amazing performances I can say that these firsts will turn into a longer road ahead.
Talking about being a part of Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, Anirban says…
I was very nervous because it is my first in Hindi cinema, with this I am entering this very big zone of Indian cinema’s legacy, so it’s not an easy job. I wasn’t aware of the real story that much, I had read it in newspapers, but I had forgotten it. When Ashima narrated the script to me, I recalled it that Sushma Swaraj was the foreign minister and she made a speech at parliament.
On his role he said…
The story is heartbreaking, and the way Ashima wrote the characters the balance of judgement was very fantastic in them. She made the character believable in a grey zone, that attracted me to this role. The character has left a piece in me, but not like Mrs Chatterjee. That character has left more of an impact on me.
Sharing his thoughts on working with Rani Mukerji, Anirban said…
Working with Rani was fantastic, in every possible way it was a big learning experience for me. I am very thankful to Ashima and Rani, Emmay Entertainment, and everyone that I got this opportunity to see her performing in front of my eyes. The very first day at the rehearsals, it was the first Europe schedule for me, with a big star like Rani Mukerji, she saw me and spoke to me, with her smile she broke all the ice.
In fact, for Anirban the biggest takeaway from this film is…
The hidden mysterious acting process of Rani Mukerji is my biggest takeaway, I want to learn how she emotes and when she got prepared for the part. You cannot see this, but what translates on screen is so powerful.
Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway releases in theatres on Friday, 17th March and I am very sure that Anirban will leave you very impressed with his performance. Here’s wishing him all the very best.
