Yesterday, after a very long time I witnessed perfection on the big screen. Yes, I am talking about the film Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway starring Rani Mukerji and Anirbhan Bhattacharya. The film is based on a real-life incident and hence, my expectations from it were even more. Well, every line spoken and every frame shot in this 2 hours 15 minutes film lived up to more than what I thought it would be. Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway is directed by Ashima Chibber and produced by Nikkhil Advani, Monisha Advani, and Madhu Bhojwani. Jim Sarbh is seen in a supporting role, while Neena Gupta also has a cameo in the film. What I loved about the movie is that right from the first scene it is very captivating. There is not a moment you will blink. In fact, it will stir your emotions in the same direction as Debika Chatterjee and you’ll never know when you start hoping and praying for her to reunite with her children.

What I liked about the film…
1. Rani Mukerji’s performance as Debika Chatterjee
Playing a typical Bengali settled abroad, Rani Mukerji played the part of the T. I loved how she stayed true to the flavor of the character. But her fierce mother stance was also something that left my jaw dropped. Every emotion that Rani’s character felt, I could feel too as an audience and that’s the brilliance of her performance. Not a millisecond also could I feel that she is telling someone else’s story, in fact, it felt like she is going through it all.
2. The Songs
The film’s story is quite intense, but the songs in it are so beautiful. Personally my favorites are Shubho Shubho and Aami Jaani Re. The way they are set in the film and even the lyrics make you feel every sentiment that only adds to the amazingness of the story. Even Maa Ke Dil Se was so aptly set in the story that it makes you feel Debika’s pain. But the picturization in Shubho Shubho is my favorite, for, it bonds me with the Chatterjee family in a very organic way.
3. The Storytelling
There wasn’t a single loophole I could find this film’s narrative. The story is so nicely tailormade that it will make you hate Mr Chatterjee, sympathize with Debika, at the same time highlight the internal turmoil Rani and Anirbhan’s characters share in the film. It will make you angry when all of Debika’s efforts go futile, when Debika gets cheated, and even when she takes help the Indian government. The cultural differences are so wonderfully dealt with, and even Rani being portrayed as a cultural misfit in the Norwegian society has been done quite tastefully.
Things that could have been better…
In all honesty, there is not a point in the story where I can keep a finger and say that this could be changed.
In conclusion I would say, that Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway‘s story will hit you hard irrespective of you being a parent or no. I highly recommend you to watch this film on the big screen and if possible, watch it with your family.
