I always wonder how the last few years have been a real game-changer for the film industry. Yes, not just in terms of the content being churned out, but even creating so many work opportunities for all. Today, there is room for everyone and I am happy that I get to witness some fantastic performances. One such role I saw recently was of Anupam Kher in Shiv Shastri Balboa. I must say, Mr. Kher has been on a roll, from The Kashmir Files to Uunchai and then this film, followed by winning some awards, he certainly is in quite a great phase of his career. I recently spoke to him and my takeaway was that with such a rich filmography, that passion is still so strong.
In fact, on a parting note, he told me that 30 years later, you and I will be here and do an interview once again. But when I asked him about his performance in Shiv Shastri Balboa, he said…
Conveying a character is always performance oriented, how believable a line becomes is the conviction of the actor in the character.
Sharing what he sees in a script, he shared…
If a script challenges me as an actor and if it is an interesting story. I have done so much work that unless a story doesn’t challenge me or I see a possibility of doing it in a different manner. Balboa could have been very simple, I made it complicated.
His last film Shiv Shastri Balboa also talks about the generation gap, sharing his thoughts on the same, Anupam reveals…
That’s the truth in our lives also, my favorite songs are not Sikander’s favorite songs. And that’s the best way to find out what generation are you from. The older person has to bridge that gap, I do that in personal life. I know how to go about a phone, I cannot let anybody say that they will show me how to operate Instagram. That what makes me relevant today, I am not burdened by the fact that I know I am Anupam Kher.
Talking about his dream roles, Anupam shared…
It is just the beginning for me. Another 30 years later I will tell you about my role. Whatever genre I have wanted to do, God has sent that to me. I never thought I will get to do a film like Kashmir Files or go to the base camp of Mount Everest, it all happened. I never thought I will play Lok Nayak in Emergency.
Living every moment is what Anupam believes in and I believe in his craft. Having said that I am very eager to see the amazing roles he plays on the big screen in the future.
