2022 was indeed a great year for actor Gashmeer Mahajani. He became a finalist in Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa Season 10 and it turns out that 2023 is even bigger and better. Catching up with this talented actor at this juncture in his career was quite amazing. I say so because Gashmeer is all set to star as a mystical character in the Colors TV show Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal. Other than that, he is shooting for Chhorii 2 and has other exciting things too. Recently, as Gashmeer was heading to Alibaug to shoot for Chhorii 2, I spoke to him and he shared how he juggled between the show and the film. He sleeps in his van at times, and only gets an hour free in the day, he shared.
He also added,
If I am working on Chhorii 2, then during the day I shoot for Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal, and vice versa. I get an hour in between to go home, freshen up, and come back.
I wondered if it is a coincidence that both of Gashmeer’s recent projects are towards the paranormal space, and he shared more details about his role in Chhorii 2…
At one place I am hunting the paranormal and at the other, I am the paranormal. Chhorii and the Marathi version of its Lapa Chappi was entirely from the woman’s perspective, it was something that she is fighting alone. For this one, when I was talking to director Vishal Furia, he said that he wants to add a male perspective to it. Chhorii 2 is based on some folklore, it is not the regular paranormal. My character is of a today’s guy, he lives in the city, is a progressive man, there is a parallel track driven from his perspective too. Vishal and I have worked in the past together, it is nice to collaborate with him after 5-6 years.
While today Gashmeer is in an exciting space when I ask him what’s changed over these years, she goes on to explain…
I have become more daring now, I wasn’t so much in the past. I used to hold back and say no to things, my inhibitions were very strong earlier. But over time they have vanished completely, for me, now if something excites me and fits the mathematics of my career, then even if there is a possibility of failure, I might take the risk and experiment. If it is exciting enough I will attempt it. You get a sense of mortality, when you realize that you have limited time on this planet to do things you want to do. Becoming a father four years back changed my perception. That was the turning point for me. I treat people with much more empathy and kindness now than I used to before.
I even asked if we will see Gashmeer explore the reality shows space more and if Bigg Boss is on the list and he commented…
Bigg Boss is never going to happen for me, I have already rejected that show 3-4 times in the past. It is a big surprise for me to get locked up in a house for 2-3 months not doing anything related to films or acting. It is three months lost from your life.
Gashmeer and I even spoke about what he sees in a script before taking it up and he said…
My character and director matter a lot in the script. Also, how they plan to put it up, because when I play a character I start owning it up after a while. I don’t understand what is a good performance or a bad performance. If I can make a character my own, I take it up.
On his upcoming projects, Gashmeer shared at length…
We are working on couple of scripts for an OTT show, and one will get finalized in a couple of months. Till then I will finish some work on Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal, so we will close that post May because that’s when my shoot for the show ends. In June, I will start a new Marathi film with Praveen Tarde, this will be our third film together. Mulshi Paatan the one on which Antim: The Final Truth has been made, this film is a sequel to it and I am the lead in it. The shoot will happen in June and July.
Well, it is truly upward and onwards for Gashmeer and I am glad that he has a busy year ahead because for me that means getting to see his performances frequently.
