Cinema for me has been a major life inspo, in fact, storytelling has always fascinated me. And once again I fell into that world when I watched Uunchai on the big screen. Well, the film portrayed friendship so beautifully that I badly wished to have one like it as I grow old. Having said that I even caught up with Sarika who played Mala in the film. What attracted me about her role was that it was so beautifully played. And in the end, it left me with so much hope. Turns out the journey of this film was as endearing as the friendship we witnessed.

Talking about her reaction when she was approached for the film, Sarika says…
I have worked with Rajshri before, so when I was offered Uunchai, there was an emotional connect. I loved the script because films like these are once in a blue moon opportunity, they don’t get made every day. I have never done something like this, Mala is nothing like me. When you don’t have too many dialogues you tend to get lost on the screen, that’s a challenge, but Surajji wrote the script so well that I was looking forward to all those scenes.
Talking about the importance of friendship in her life she added…
My philosophy in life has been that if you want to praise someone or apologize to someone don’t delay it. Friends have been a very big part of my life all through. All of us have a pattern to our lives, my life pattern is such that my friends really dominate it. The beauty about friendship is that it’s easier to tackle, there is a certain purity attached to friendship.
Sarika even shared how it was to shoot in extreme weather conditions and what kept her going…
It was very tough physically, we were there for one month and anywhere you had to go, you had to walk, there was no other option. Two hours to the location everyday would become three and a half when you were climbing back and that would really break your body. Though this was the toughest physical schedule ever in my life I never had the thought to just finish this and go home.Surajji’s whole demeanor causes a zen like atmosphere. It calms everybody and that is very comfortable.
We even spoke about what in a film script appeals to her, and she explained…
I never like to hear narrations; I like to be left alone to read the script. I really trust my gut feeling, I look for something in a script where the character has its moments, how well does it fit into the script because if I am not fitting well in the script then the character won’t work, no matter how hard I try as an actor. There has to be some challenge, I definitely look at characters who are not like me.
Well, as she says this is a once-in-a-blue-moon role and I am glad to have seen it.
