On being a part of the short film The list, Angad said…
In India, we have not seen something like this. As actors we also should do something that challenges us time and again. If you keep on staying in the same space as an actor, sometimes it gets monotonous. I had met Sid Roy Kapur and expressed my desire to do different kind of work like slightly experimental to showcase myself in different characters. It stuck a chord with him and he kept it in a back of his head. He said that we are making a short film and we would like you to consider it. Its different, its quirky, there is a certain sense of humor, there is also a sense of reality which hits you hard. Gaurav Dubey, the filmmaker gave a narration. He showed me how action would be done, how we would move forward. Then I could see the film, while he was trying to show me from his perspective. Then I thought this this is something that I could never think of achieving for myself. It was tough to grab the audiences attention when you don’t have dialogues for 12 minutes. It was the most challenging aspect to me as an actor as I had to just emote from eyes and body language.
While sharing his experience of working with R. Balki in Ghoomer, Angad shared…
I feel very fortunate to have good makers backing me and I always wanted to work with Balki sir because he just changes the direction of the emotion altogether. He has a different take altogether on life, on human beings, of how he perceives his characters. It is the first time where I have been put in a place like this, I have not done romance before and it comes from a selfless place. My body work has slightly been more towards intense parts. This is totally different from that. He said that do what you have to do. I asked him why me Balki sir. He said you are going through a selfless phase in life. I want the character to be selfless, giving and loving. Romance is something which our country thrives on. I have done action, drama, sports film. After Shoojit Da, I am blessed to have him, and co-actors like Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and Saiyami Kher. So I feel, Ghoomer is my most enriching and fulfilling experience.
While choosing his most memorable characters, the actor said…
Arvind Vashisht in Inside Edge, because of the emotional baggage that he carried. Then, Bikramjeet Singh in Soorma, where Diljit Dosanjh and I played brothers. It was directed by Shaad Ali. One brother’s sacrifice leads to another brother’s glory. I like that role a lot because I like sacrifice in general. I would like to see a film when a sports personality fails to make it I feel that that is more real. Sacrifice is a real emotion, you dwell into it, you try and rise I feel that it has a deeper meaning, I connect with characters like that. I am looking forward to the character I play in Balki sir’s next.
On his wish list interns of Genre of films, Angad stated…
I have a funny bone and I want to explore that genre, It is the toughest thing to do. I want to do a comedy. I want to do a slice of life film. I want to do drama. I feel like these are the three places that I have not tapped into.
While sharing about the importance of mental health, he said…
I spend a lot of time with my family which is very important for everyone for their mental health. You have to recharge your batteries after a day’s work and that’s where family comes into picture. They make you realize that life is actually a gift, so for me to be in this profession of being an actor is anyway a blessing. I feel fortunate that I am infront of the camera and people are seeing my work and connecting with me, so I think that is something I am very thankful about. I am also glad that I had a strong sports background which helps me to deal with life. I am lucky to have these people around me. My father was very strict as my teacher but today, because of his training I have become mentally strong and fearless. My father has taught me how to rise from a low phase.
Anagd will star next in The Great Indian Kitchen and Ghommer.
