This World Lipstick Day We’re Rounding Up Some Of Our Favourites On The Block: Part 1

Sakshi Rawte

Did you know that lipsticks were considered scandalous at one point of time in history? I mean, we’re not surprised at all. As far as history goes, lipsticks are probably as old as the pots and pans we see in museums. Yup, lipsticks can be traced back to 5000 BCE, that’s how old they are. Fast forward to today, lipsticks are an irreplaceable part of every makeup lover’s routine, whether you’re an expert or an amateur. For me, my introduction to the world of beauty was a classic red lipstick I stole from my mum. You too? Guessed it right! So naturally, when World Lipstick Day is around the corner, we gotta celebrate and rejoice!

Lipsticks are such an integral beauty product, don’t you think so? They have the power to take your makeup look from a 0 to a 100! Not to mention the confidence boost a good lippie comes with. Ouf! I can’t tell you the number of times I was in a dreary mood and all it took for me to get out of it was a lipstick. When it comes to lipsticks, there’s no dearth of options. Especially with the various formulations and the gazillion shades, they come in. And that’s exactly why we’ve rounded up our favourite lipsticks, the ones that we keep going back to. But stay tuned because this is just part 1 of the saga!

DIOR, Rouge Dior in 840 Rayonnete Velvet Finish

Hey, this one’s first on the list because I’m a DIOR girlie through and through. If opulence could be epitomised, I think it would definitely be DIOR’s makeup. The Rouge Dior lipsticks come enriched with red peony and pomegranate flower extracts. It’s rich hues are kinda like inviting that whole world of couture into your life. The shade 840 Rayonnete in its velvet finish is as luxurious as it can get. A dark, rich red that’s perfect for a night out on town.

MAC Cosmetics, Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo

Does it get better than MAC Cosmetics’ iconic Ruby Woo lipstick? Adored by lipstick lovers around the globe, I pretty much think this one was the stepping stone into makeup for most of us. With an absolutely matte formula, this lipstick kisses your lips and how! Did you know that colour specialists refer to this shade as a true red because it has zero hints of orange or blue in it.

FAE Beauty, Modern Matte in Awkward

When FAE Beauty recently launched their Modern Matte lipstick which is supposed to be the sibling of their Buildable Mattes. Being a traditional matte lipstick with deep pigment, this particular one doesn’t tug on your lips at all. With the power of healthy ingredients like jojoba oil, macadamia oil and vitamin e, this matte lipstick will defo keep your lips nourished. Awkward is a lovely cross between a pink and a brown, hence makes it the ultimate nude shade.

Kay Beauty, Matteinee Matte Lip Crayon in Papped

Personally, I’ve never been a fan of lipstick crayons because they come with the most drying formula ever. But Kay Beauty’s Matteinee Matte Lip Crayon gave me quite a pleasant surprise. It glides on so seamlessly on your lips, all thanks to the presence of chamomile oil and marula that prevent it from drying up. Papp-ed is a deep mauve and plum shade that can present itself as quite overpowering but once you apply it, it looks so gorgeous.

Maybelline, Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick in Ruler

Did you know that its staying power is up to 16 hours? It comes with a precise applicator that does a beautiful job at outlining your cupid’s bow. We’re saying this because lipstick applicators are rarely ever perfect! Ruler is a vibrant pink, a colour that’s everywhere this season.

This one’s an oldie but a goldie for sure. Nykaa’s Matte To Last Liquid Lipstick has the softest formula, even for a liquid matte lipstick. It feels rather comfortable on your lips though it can be a little too pigmented. Madras Kaapi is one of the most gorgeous lip shades I’ve ever used, it’s a deep brown colour that doesn’t overpower you at all.

Lakme, 9to5 Primer + Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Dynamic Purple
