I have always been mind blown by the amazing stunts Rohit Shetty has in his films, but having him on television is like an additional treat one could ask for. That too hosting a stunt-based reality show like Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 and pushing the envelope with it is simply a cherry on the cake. Also, what I love about Rohit is that he is quite a genuine person, everything he does or speaks has honesty which is what wins hearts. Recently, when Shravan Shah, Content Head from Team MissMalini spoke to him in Cape Town, there were many heartfelt things the ace director had to share. Well, honestly, I am very excited for KKK 12, which airs on Colors TV this weekend, but before that, you ought to read this amazing interview Rohit Shetty gave us.
Read the excerpts from the interview here:
On creating magic with his projects…
I consider myself lucky, I don’t have any formula for it. Just that I think things are working, the credit goes to the audience or the viewers. We are just working hard, we try to give our 100 per cent sometimes more and people love that.
On the pressure/expectations, he deals with…
There is no pressure, but there are expectations and I know that. Instead of taking pressure, I work really hard with my team. The kind of success I have gotten whether, with television or films, I know it’s magical for me. All I can do is push the envelope and work hard. When you see the show (KKK12), what we did last year, we are trying to push the envelope this year, we are trying to make it bigger and more entertaining. We know that we have a set audience for the show, we cannot take them for granted. We have never taken our viewers for granted, and that’s what worked for us.
On if he has the fear of failing…
No, it’s life, you are working. The most important thing for me than a failure is my honesty. I will have sleepless nights if something has worked and I have not been honest about it.
On his fears…
When you grow up, you do have fears. The kind of profession I am in and the kind of training I have gone through or the work I do now, more than fear, it’s about being trained or not. Obviously, we all are human beings and do have our fears, you can see a person skydiving and get scared, but that person is trained to do that. It’s not like he was very brave and just jumped off, so being trained is very important in anything you do because then you can easily come over your fear. Then it’s about your precision.
On how well does he choreograph the stunts…
It’s not easy and by now it’s a set format with the show. It’s a difficult show and you should love this genre to be in this show, otherwise, you cannot be on the show. You have to be alert every moment when action is going on. It’s a tiring show. It’s one of the most difficult shows produced in our country.
On taking a break…
If I am not doing anything that is the time I am restless. When I am working, I am happy and at peace. I do take breaks, but it is minimalistic. I enjoy what I do, it has never been a day where I get up and think I have to go to work, I look forward to it.
On dealing with risks in action…
When you’re doing the action, cuts and bruises are normal. Just that it should not be something fatal. The injuries can’t be very serious. When we are on set, we are prepared for sprains, pains, and a little bit of cuts, it’s meant to happen, but you cannot avoid that. But obviously, you need to know where to stop, otherwise, it becomes lethal. It shouldn’t be a life-threatening thing for my actors, team or the Khiladis as well.
On moving on from a project…
For me, it’s like creating happy memories, more than taking pressure. If you are stressed while making that, how will you entertain the audience? For me, the films I make or this show, entertainment is the most important thing. When I am shooting, memories are important, we all are just laughing. A film will release on Friday, be a hit or a flop, and move on. For me it’s very easy to move on, I don’t take my success very seriously. Friday a film releases and I can move on, on a Saturday. I have done that a lot of times.
Khatron Ke Khiladi 12 goes on air on 2nd July and many big names from the TV fraternity, namely, Rubina Dilaik, Kanika Mann, Jannat Zubair, Mohit Malik, Rajiv Adatia, Pratik Sehajpal, Shivangi Joshi and many more are part of this season. And it is contestants that have left me very excited for the all-new season. Stay tuned!
