Actor Mahima Chaudhury, best known for her performance in the 1997 hit Pardes, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Earlier today, vetaran Actor Anupam Kher took to Instagram to share a video in which Mahima reveals her diagnosis and her subsequent battle with breast cancer.
It was revealed that Anupam Kher got to know about Mahima’s condition when he called her to offer her a role in his film The Signature. In the video, Mahima broke down, when she remembered asking him if she could show up on the set with a wig.
Mahima recalls being asked to get herself checked, when her yearly examination brought up certain concerns. She says she didn’t have any symptoms, but visited Oncologist Dr. Mandar Nadkarni as recommended. She recalls that she didn’t feel brave, and was terrified when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Looking back on her ordeal, she says she derived strength and inspiration from the women and children she met during chemotherapy.
“I don’t know if I’ll suit being on the sets like this,” she recollects telling Anupam, and got emotional about his support through it all. “We don’t have real-life heroes and that’s what we’re looking for. And you’re one of them,” she quotes Anupam Kher’s words to her, who in his own words, calls her the “most courageous person”.
In the past, celebrities like Tahira Kashyap, Sonali Bendre, Lisa Ray, and Kirron Kher amongst others have also opened up about their battle with cancer. According to studies, one in 28 women in India, is likely to develop breast cancer during her lifetime.
