In today’s day and age, cinema has become a global medium of expression with the barriers of language or geography not being of much concern. Thus, there is a lot of exchange of ideas that happens between industries and sometimes it comes in the form of remakes and adaptations as well. Presently, the Hindi industry is remaking several projects not just from down South but globally as well, and as excited as I am to witness them either on the big or the digital screens, I am also eager to see how the actors in these projects match up to their international counterparts.
Here is a list of 6 actors who are going to be starring in the official Hindi remakes of some successful international titles:
Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha
Ever since it was announced that Tom Hanks‘ 1994 Oscar winning film, Forest Gump is officially getting a Hindi remake with Aamir Khan portraying the titular role, I was invested in it. Titled Laal Singh Chaddha, the remake also marks the reunion of the iconic 3 Idiots trio of Aamir , Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. Knowing the capability and credibility behind Aamir’s name, this one will surely be one to watch out for.
Wamiqa Gabbi in Modern Love: Mumbai
The young and talented Wamiqa Gabbi will be starring in the remake of the Anne Hathway-starrer Modern Love, which is titled Modern Love: Mumbai. The project, backed by Amazon Prime Video, would be a romantic comedy anthology that brings together six renowned directors of Hindi cinema. Wamiqa will share screen space with Pratik Gandhi and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the show. This indeed has an intriguing line up for my taste!
Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan in The Intern
Deepika Padukone‘s next production venture is the Hindi remake of Hollywood hit The Intern opposite Amitabh Bachchan. The original is one of my favourite films ever, thus I was very excited about the remake ever since the announcement. The film is an intimate, relationship-driven film, set in and around the workplace; a story that is very relevant to the present-day social and cultural environment. Its original international star cast boasted of Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, and knowing the stardom of both Deepika and the Big B, I am sure this one is going to be as epic.
Taapsee Pannu in Blurr
Taapsee Pannu is turning producer with the Hindi remake of the Spanish psychological thriller, Julia’s Eyes, titled Blurr and I am quite excited to see the actress in this dual role of actor-producer on the film. It also features Gulshan Devaiah and tells the story of a woman who’s slowly losing her sight whilst trying to investigate the death of her twin sisters. Well, the plot of this film and Taapsee donning two hats on it has already got me on the edge of my seat!
Aditya Roy Kapur in the remake of The Night Manager
Aditya Roy Kapur is making his web series debut with a remake of the British hit series The Night Manager. The original show is an espionage thriller, featuring Tom Hiddleston as an undercover agent. The Hindi remake will have Aditya step in his shoes and knowing Tom’s charm, I don’t think there could have been a better choice. Being an ardent Aditya admirer, I am most excited about this one.
The next few years are turning out to be quite exciting with all these shows and films in the pipeline. There are so many superstars taking on iconic roles and I am eager to see the flavour they bring to them. It will be quite amazing to witness!
