It need not be said but Ranveer Singh is indeed a true chameleon when it comes to his onscreen characters. The actor never fails to astound me whenever he appears on screen. He plays two poles apart period parts like Bajirao and Khilji with as much conviction as a Kabir in Dil Dhadakne Do. From Bittu in Band Baaja Baarat to Kapil Dev in ’83, Ranveer has never disappointed me on screen, and he is set to blow my mind yet again with Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
Starring Ranveer alongside South actress Shalini Pandey, who is making her Bollywood debut with the film, Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah, Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a socially relevant film that presents a new form of heroism in the form of Jayeshbhai who is out to save his unborn daughter. It is directed by debutante Divyang Thakkar and produced by Yash Raj Films and Maneesh Sharma. It will release theatrically on May 13.

The trailer introduces us to the world of Jayeshbhai, who is living in a patriarchal village where he is next in line to take up the post of the sarpanch. Already a father to a daughter, Jayeshbhai and his wife are expecting another baby and while the family is hell bent on wanting a son, they are also ready to kill the baby if it’s a daughter. The story follows Jayeshbhai and his wife and kid on a run from their family who want to kill their unborn daughter, but he is on a mission to save his kid.
The way Ranveer has transformed himself into Jayeshbhai is just commendable and he is portraying the role of a dutiful son, a loving husband and a protective father to the T. To bring humour in such a serious topic of female feticide is not easy but the way Divyang and the team of Jayeshbhai Jordaar have done it with perfection, deserves to be lauded. While there are a lot of hilarious moments in the trailer, like Jayeshbhai’s daughter hitting her grandfather in the groin in self defense to Jayeshbhai threatening to castrate himself, it also has a lot of heartwarming and emotional glimpses as well like when Jayeshbhai talks to his wife about the man being responsible for the gender of the foetus.
With every film, Ranveer is proving why he is considered amongst the best actors of this generation. The way he transforms himself into each character of his is just spellbinding, and he has done it yet again with Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The trailer is promising a unique, quirky, important and memorable story and with Ranveer associated with it, it has already become all the more special. May 13 can’t get here soon enough, and I will be rooting for Jayeshbhai when it does.
