Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have kept me, and the entire nation, on our toes by keeping the details of their wedding under wraps. On one hand, the couple hasn’t made any comments on the date of their wedding but the decorations, celebrations and arrival of family members have indicated that the big day is approaching soon. Yesterday, Ranbir’s mom Neetu Kapoor said that the wedding is happening today. Whether it was the truth or just a little prank she pulled off on the paparazzi is yet to be seen, but no matter what, Ranbir and Alia’s love story truly depicts the power of manifestation.
It was at the age of 11 when Alia first felt butterflies for her would-be husband. She had gone to audition for Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Black, where Ranbir was an assistant director. It was an instant attraction she felt for him, but still it was just a crush at that time.
Then, when Alia made her debut on Koffee With Karan right after Student Of The Year, it was there when she confessed who she had a crush on. When asked by Karan Johar about the three men from the industry she would like to compete in her swayamvar, Alia didn’t even take a beat before taking Ranbir’s name. She took his name yet again when asked about the actor she wouldn’t mind having a steamy scene on-screen with. In the kill, marry, hookup section as well, she chose to marry Ranbir and nine years later, it is finally happening. You might call it destiny or coincidence, but I call it manifestation!
Soon after the episode came out, fans of the actors started manifesting for these two to appear in a film together, and then Ayan Mukerji made it possible by casting the two in Brahmastra. Besides being a director, Ayan also played the role of cupid in Ranbir and Alia’s life as it was on the sets of this film that the couple actually got together.
Brahmastra got pushed several times over the last six or seven years, and it only seemed destiny that the film would release the same year the couple tied the knot.
After Ranbir and Alia came close during the shoot of Brahmastra, rumour mills started buzzing with the reports of the two dating. Neither of the two accepted or denied those reports, but they surprised everyone as they made their relationship official on Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja‘s wedding. The two arrived together and ever since then, there hasn’t been a single outing where they haven’t set out some major #CoupleGoals.
One thing I really like about Ranbir and Alia as a couple is that they never shy away from admitting to their relationship and confessing their love in the media. They also never overshared maintaining privacy in their personal life which in return makes me a major shipper of these two. Soon after Sonam’s wedding, the couple started talking about each other in the media, admitting to their relationship.
It was again on Koffee With Karan that Alia opened up about her relationship with Ranbir. Both Karan and fellow guest Deepika Padukone teased Alia about her and Ranbir’s picture from Sonam’s wedding, and the blush on Alia’s face in that episode just reflected how deeply she was in love with Ranbir at that time. And that love has just grown. It was in this interview that all of us realised how serious Alia was about this relationship and we all knew that she and Ranbir would get married soon. In an interview with Rajeev Masand, even Ranbir confessed that if not for the pandemic, he would have already been married to Alia.
While the public appearances of the couple remained on the DL for the past two years due to the pandemic, they still did not stop giving out couple goals. Ranbir even assisted Alia for her haircut during the pandemic, and I don’t think it gets any cuter than that.
The couple already has been with each other through thick and thin and has been each other’s support. In the high moments, I got to see Ranbir courting Alia on the stage of an award show while raving about her as she got an award. But also in the low moments, they were never apart. Alia was constantly by Ranbir’s side when he lost his father Rishi Kapoor two years ago. The two have become a part of not just each other’s lives but also of each other’s families. While the Bhatts are in awe of Ranbir, Alia has been a permanent fixture at any and all family gatherings of the Kapoor Khandan.
Ranbir and Alia also took trips to South Africa, to Rajasthan and so many places and wherever they went, they never shied away from expressing their love. Their PDA has become something that I really adore and admire a lot. And these PDAs also turned to open confessions when Alia got busy with the promotions last December. It all started at the RRR trailer launch where she was asked if she thought the letter ‘R’ was lucky for her. The way she blushed on that was just too cute.
That flirting continued on the motion poster launch event of Brahmastra in Delhi, where Ranbir himself teased Alia about the ‘R’ incident. He even showed how much he loves Alia as he revealed the exact date when their relationship began, January 1, 2017, in Tel Aviv, Israel. A happy new year indeed for the two. He also still remembered the outfit she wore in the picture she put up on Instagram the next day. Aren’t they just made for each other?
It was in the same event that an audience member asked Ranbir when will he marry Alia (or somebody else), and his quippy answer just had our heart. He said that a lot of people had already gotten married in 2021 and we should be happy about that post which the two started pulling each other’s legs and then roped in the captain of their film, Ayan on this mischief.
During the promotions of Gangubai Kathiawadi this year, even Alia opened up to us in our interview about her relationship with Ranbir. The way she described it was enough for me to be certain that this one is meant to go the distance. But I loved how unabashedly she admitted to her love, shattering any stereotypes surrounding actors being upfront about their personal lives.
This is a relationship that I have seen blossom and flourish in front of my eyes, thus there is a deeper connection I feel to both Ranbir and Alia. These two are soulmates who are made for each other, and they have proven it time and again. Just like Alia once said in an interview that she is already married to Ranbir in her mind, even I see them together as a unit. This wedding is just a celebration of that union and I can’t wait to celebrate it with them, even if it is through the fourth wall. Here’s wishing Ranbir and Alia a lifetime of togetherness and happiness.
