Ranveer Singh is a true chameleon when it comes to his onscreen persona. From a high-on energy character like Bittu in Band Baaja Baarat to a calm character like Kabir in Dil Dhadakne Do, the actor has always immersed himself into his characters, having me in awe of him each time. After playing Kapil Dev in ’83, he is now ready to bring out yet another quirky character in Jayeshbhai Jordaar and I have some big expectations from it.
With this film, Ranveer will present a new brand of hero and heroism that is rare in Indian cinema and recalling his experience of turning into Jayeshbhai, the actor opened up about why he likes to bedazzle people with his transformations.
Ranveer says,
“For me, the best thing about being an actor is that you can live so many lives and experience so much because each character that I choose to play is remarkably different from any other. When people saw Band Baaja Baaraat, they felt for the longest time that I was a boy who was born and brought up in Delhi. This has happened many times during the course of my 11 year career and that, to me, is the biggest compliment because I like to convince people that I can transform myself into anyone.”
The actor is clear that he makes his film choices very carefully and strategically as he doesn’t want to get typecast within the industry and among audiences. His only aim is to wow his audiences and keep evolving with each character of his.
He adds,
“I’m deeply inspired by the shape-shifting, chameleon like actors across the world like Daniel Day-Lewis. So, I look forward to metamorphosizing on the big screen with every film. I have done this since my first time to my last release ’83, in which I became the legendary Kapil Dev. I have a personal ambition to never be typecast and it’s a tough one but I choose my scripts quite cleverly. Jayeshbhai Jordaar presented me with a huge opportunity to play a character with no reference point all over again. I think I really manifest these roles into my life.”
Yash Raj Films’ Jayeshbhai Jordaar, also stars Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey, who is debuting in Bollywood with the film. It has been directed by debutant Divyang Thakkar and is slated to release on May 13, 2022 worldwide.
Ranveer is a true shape-shifter and I am certain that with Jayeshbhai Jordaar too, he has another ace up his sleeve, with which he will make me and all his audiences fall in love with him all over again. His choices are reflecting the seasoned actor he has become and it fills me with pride to see the big strides he has been taking in his career. I am sure that there is a lot more to come.
