Be it Moeen Bhai from Gully Boy or the twins Shatrughan and Bharat Tyagi from Mirzapur 2, Vijay Varma knows how to make his way to my heart through his work. He is one of those actors who didn’t start as a quintessential Hindi film hero, but today he has some amazing offers where he is working with the crème de la crème of the industry.
In his upcoming line up, Vijay has Hurdang with Nushrratt Bharuccha and Sunny Kaushal, Darlings with Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah, Fallen with Sonakshi Sinha and a project with Kareena Kapoor Khan as well. As I get to converse with him about them, the actor gets real excited.
Darlings will mark his second project with Alia after Gully Boy, and even though there they didn’t get much scenes together, in Darlings they are ready to light up the screens alongside each other. And he just can’t stop raving about his co-star.
Vijay says,
“We shared very brief scenes together during the making of Gully Boy but I could tell that she was one of the sincerest actresses I had seen. She came with a diary and made notes. She had a class topper kind of an approach. It was very clear from the onset that she was up for any kind of a surprise within the scene and she enjoys that. When I got to work closely with her in Darlings, I realised that how meticulous and insightful she is when it comes to filmmaking and the craft of acting. I have been lucky to jam and play with some of the best players out there.”
Not just Alia, but Vijay is all praise for his other co-star from the film, Shefali, as well. And when he goes gaga about her eyes, I can’t help but agree with him 100 percent.
The actor adds,
“As for Shefali, we all know how fascinating she is. Those eyes of Shefali Shah are something that we all aspire to get even one-fifth of. Just like how powerful those eyes of Irrfan Khan were. Shefali has the eyes of Irrfan. She is a powerhouse and the sweetest person on set. Darlings is a lovely film and the experience of doing it has benefitted my craft a great deal.”
In the last month or so, both his co-stars have had huge successes in the form of Gangubai Kathiawadi and Jalsa. As I ask him how does it feel to see them succeed in their work, Vijay answers like a proud co-star and friend.
He shares,
“It comes as no surprise that they are stalwarts in their own spaces and they are pretty smashing in what they do. I have seen people cheering for them and I am one of their biggest cheerleaders myself. I watched Gangubai Kathiawadi at the screening and I was lauding Alia for what she has achieved, as this performance will inspire generations of actresses. And she has done that just in her mid 20s. It is too big an achievement at such a young age, and she has been giving it year after year.”
All three of them, Vijay, Alia and Shefali, are powerhouses of talents and seeing them together on screen will surely be a riot. The mystery around what the film is about has already kept me on the edge, and this stellar cast just adds to it. Now, after hearing Vijay praise his co-stars so much, my excitement has just hit the roof, and I am just waiting for Darlings to release.
