Atul Kulkarni is undoubtedly one of the finest actors we have today in Indian cinema and the hard-hitting, critically-acclaimed roles he’s played so far are testament to that. The actor has been getting a lot of rave reviews for playing Gautam in Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness alongside Ajay Devgn while his series A Thursday is also so amazing.
The actor has been in the industry for 22 years and certainly seen many changes and perhaps also updated himself along with these changes. When asked about the progression from theatre to digital and how he perceives the medium, here’s what the actor had to say.
Atul said,
If you’re making an 8-10 episode series, it’s like making three films, so it’s important that writing is concentrated upon. It won’t be wrong to say that OTT is basically a writer’s medium. Of course, some new discipline is bound to come with new format and that’s happened with films too, that the audiences have changed, hence their demands have changed. So and so with film-makers – their exposure has changed. When films changed into digital and the computer brought in changes, it was a different kind of transition. Now, we are talking of OTT, and maybe in 3-4 years we would be talking of some other medium.
Clearly, change is the only constant, but what’s wonderful is how the actor continues to change himself with the current times and mould himself into these different circumstances completely!
Rudra : The Edge Of Darkness also stars Esha Gupta and Raashii Khanna alongside Ajay and Atul and is now streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
