Languages and borders don’t matter when it comes to art and Indian cinema is a proof to that. Over the years, we have had many Indian artists making their name and presence felt globally. I feel so proud of what Priyanka Chopra Jonas has achieved as she is a global superstar today. But the exchange hasn’t been only one way. With Bollywood being the second biggest film producing industry in the whole world, there are many international artists who have expressed the desire to work here. And as the 365 Days star Michele Morrone gets ready to hit the Indian markets with a single opposite Jacqueline Fernandez, let’s revisit some other global celebrities that graced the Indian screens.
Here are some international artists who made an appearance in Hindi projects:
Michele Morrone
Michele became a global heartthrob with his stunning looks in the international film 365 Days. The film found a massive fan base in India, and so did the Italian actor. Even I am one of them. He had previously expressed his desire to work in Indian cinema in his interviews and ever since, I had been waiting for an announcement from him. So, yesterday when he announced his single ‘Mud Mud Ke’ opposite Jacqueline, I was ecstatic. The poster only has left me awed of their chemistry that I am now dying to see it in the song. Just wishing for an Indian filmmaker to cast him in a Bollywood film already.
Kylie Minogue
The Australian singer and actress Kylie Minogue created quite a stir in the Indian market when she appeared in the song Chiggy Wiggy in the film Blue. Her playful banter and chemistry with Akshay Kumar in the song was something worth watching and ever since, I have been waiting for her to return to our screens and spread her magic all over again. Meanwhile, who amongst us hasn’t tried the Chiggy Wiggy step? I still do it.
Barbara Mori
The highly successful Mexican actress Barbara Mori made her full-fledged Hindi film debut opposite the Greek God himself, Hrithik Roshan, in Anurag Basu’s Kites. Even though the film failed to connect with the audience, cutting Barbara’s stint short in Bollywood, her sizzling chemistry with Hrithik became quite the talk of the town. The music of the film is something I still listen to and how good she and Hrithik looked together is something I will never be able to get out of my mind.
Will Smith
The American superstar Will Smith has always been vocal about his love for Indian culture and its cinema. He had long expressed the desire to work here and it was Karan Johar who finally made that happen. I remember watching him groove to The Jawani Song in Student Of The Year 2 alongside Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, Tara Sutaria and Aditya Seal, and seeing him dance so well on a Hindi song made me groove to the music too. Someone just cast him in a Hindi film already.
Sylvester Stallone
The original Hollywood hunk Sylvester Stallone is another international celebrity that appeared in a film of Akshay. He was seen in a cameo in the Akshay and Kareena Kapoor Khan-starrer Kambhakkht Ishq, where he played himself. And he wasn’t the only international celebrity in the film as Brandon Routh, Denise Richards and Holly Valance also made an appearance as themselves in the film. That was the first time I understood what it meant to be star struck on screen.
Mike Tyson
Not just the past, but even the future holds some exciting international collaborations in the cards as Hollywood legend and boxer Mike Tyson is all set to appear alongside Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya in Liger. Their BTS pictures from shoot have already left me curious and excited for the film and I am sure that it is definitely going to be an adventurous ride with him on board.
It’s always exciting to see such international collaborations happening as it brings countries and industries closer. And with so many interesting ones happening in the future as well, I am just ecstatic to see more names being added to this list.
