The Indian theatre business has went through a lot in the last two years. From closing multiple times, to working on 50 per cent occupancy and seeing no new big releases, the industry has suffered a lot. For a cinema nerd like me, who has to go to the theatre every weekend, it has been tough to wait for so long for that experience between two movies, but with the performance of Alia Bhatt‘s Gangubai Kathiawadi this weekend, the hopes have again risen for the business. And now another women-led film which can create wonders at the box-office, Kangana Ranaut‘s Dhaakad, has come up with a new release date.
The film was earlier slated to release on April 8, but due to the shift in the movie schedule because of the shutting of theatres in a lot of parts of the country in January, Dhaakad will now release on May 27, 2022. Not just that, it will be released as a multi-lingual pan-Indian film in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, marking Kangana’s second pan India outing after Thalaivii.
Dhaakad is touted to be Bollywood’s first high-octane spy thriller led by a female star and is made on a lavish budget. Led by Kangana, the film also features Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutt and Saswata Chatterjee along with an ensemble cast.
On this new development, Kangana says,
“The film had to be made on a certain scale that had to be tailored to the vast vision of its makers. India has never seen a women action entertainer of this scale. A story as paramount as this should reach maximum eyeballs and I am happy to announce that Dhaakad would be released in multiple languages. I can’t wait for the audience to meet Agent Agni. She will blow their minds with her fury and power.”
Producer Deepak Mukut adds,
“We envisioned Dhaakad as a film that’s at par with international action films. We got a female superstar to headline it, creating a new norm. After the success of Thalaivii, Kangana is a big favourite with the South market. Thus, we will be releasing the film in multiple regional languages. It’s a never-seen-before scale of release for a woman-led film.”
Producer Sohel Maklai says,
“Over three years of blood, sweat and tears will give audiences India’s biggest female action star with the release of Dhaakad. We are immensely proud of the film and we’re sure it will resonate with people across India and beyond.”
Director Razneesh Razy Ghai shares,
“From the beginning, we’ve worked towards ensuring Dhaakad to be a film for the big screen. I’m hoping it will rekindle the excitement and love for the moviegoing experience. We want to give India its next big action star to rally behind.”
Dhaakad is produced by Deepak and Sohel and co-produced by Hunar Mukut. It is presented by Soham Rockstar Entertainment Pvt Ltd in association with Kamal Mukut, Sohel Maklai Productions and Asylum films.
Seeing the wonders that one women-led film is currently doing at the box office, I am certain that Kangana’s Dhaakad will also not leave any stone unturned to weave the same magic. The actress’ look as Agent Agni has already created a lot of intrigue inside me and I am really looking forward to May 27 now to witness the visual spectacle that the film promises to be.
