Sanya Malhotra is getting wonderful reviews for her performance in Love Hostel and the actress has proved her mettle from film to film – from Dangal to Love Hostel. Interestingly, while Love Hostel released yesterday, it was also Sanya’s birthday and I’ve absolutely loved her birthday post. Check it out!
She’s picked some really different roles that perhaps didn’t necessarily have her as the quintessential glamourous Hindi cinema heroine. Recently the actress was also in a conversation with our boss lady, Malini Agarwal on Clubhouse. When Sanya was asked about taking up such roles and it bothers her that she doesn’t get to play the glam girl, here’s what she had to say.
Sanya said,
“That doesn’t worry me at all. That’s also because I have this conditioning as an actor because of Dangal. We had to really transform ourselves and start living as wrestlers and the connect which the audience had with those characters has become my conditioning now. That’s the reason I get into a character. We get to transform ourselves into various personalities and I love that about my job because I like to look different and I want to sound different for all my characters. I don’t worry about not looking glamourous. And I’m sure I’ll also get glamourous roles to play too.”
Sanya is also someone who loves to sink her teeth deep into every character. So much so, that sometimes a character just stays with her.
Talking about one such character, Sanya said,
“For me, it was Miloni from Photograph. That was my second film and I was still figuring out these healthy boundaries with the character I was playing. For months after the shoot, I used to tell people I am her. I had developed this bond with her and I fooled myself to believe that I am Miloni. It took me a long time and Badhai Ho happened that time. Miloni was so reticent and shy that I was still in that zone and didn’t talk to anyone on the set while shooting for Badhaai Do. This character left me when I started with Patakha and taking acting workshops from Atul Mongia who is a brilliant acting coach. He introduced me to having these boundaries with the character you’re playing. Now I’ve learnt to do that better, but I still love to blur those boundaries and induce emotions, and imagine stuff not happening in my life.”
No wonder, Sanya has been so impressive in all her films and always has something different to give us. I’m looking forward to so much more of her work in the coming months. Sanya will be teaming up with Dangal co-star Fatima Sana Shaikh in Meghna Gulzar’s next which also stars Vicky Kaushal. The film is titled Sam Bahadur.
