I have been mightily impressed by the growth that Mrunal Thakur has shown over the years in her journey in showbiz. The actress is one of the few artists who have made a successful transition from TV to films, and with every project, she is just flourishing more and more. Last year, she gave two impeccable performances in Toofaan and Dhamaka, even though they were hero-driven films. And with her upcoming line up, she is set to impress some more. She will next be seen in Jersey opposite Shahid Kapoor, followed by the Hindi remake of Thadam, where she plays a cop opposite Aditya Roy Kapur and in a conversation with Mid-Day, the actress opened up about the latter.
Speaking about playing a cop in the Hindi remake of the 2019 Tamil film, Mrunal admitted to finding inspiration within the Hindi film industry only.
She said,
“I loved the way Tabu performed in Drishyam. The first thing that came to my mind was how fierce and feisty the character in the uniform was. Her character is the one I inspire to be like. Donning a uniform comes with a responsibility. I can’t wait to (take it up).”
The 2019 Tamil original, Thadam, was inspired by true events and followed the story of a murder of a young man. And while the film is an actioner, Mrunal shares that she won’t be pulling off any action sequences in it and her focus is rather on getting the body language and performance right. And what kind of comes to her advantage is that she comes from a family of police officials in real life.
Mrunal shared,
“Apart from my father, everyone in the family was an ACP or DC. I grew up with my uncles, so it is nice to (showcase their lifestyle).”
Talking about her director Vardhan Ketkar and co-star Aditya, the actress said,
“This is also Vardhan’s first film, so I am excited to begin this project. And as far as working with Aditya is concerned, we met only briefly, but I am looking forward to collaborating with him.”
The promise that Mrunal has shown with each of her portrayal, I have no doubt that she will nail this one as well. Also, being an ardent admirer of Aditya, I am excited to see these two powerhouses of talent collaborate and create magic on screen.
