Marathi film Sairat unanimously got so much love and appreciation that I’m really intrigued to know that film-maker Nagraj Manjule is set to collaborate with ace producer Siddharth Roy Kapur for a web-series.
Tentatively titled Matka King, this series is set between the 1960s and the 1990s, inspired from true events and the life of Ratan Khatri who is touted to be the father of gambling in India. The film also is said to be capturing the culture of Mumbai’s working class of the 60s and 70s and the progress of the nation through their lives.
While the cast of the series is yet to be announced, Sid Roy Kapur feels this story will resonate with many.
The producer said in a statement,
“Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat is one of my favourite movies of the last decade and I’m thrilled to be collaborating with him to tell this fascinating story that we hope will resonate with viewers across India and the world.”
The national award winning director is also equally excited to team up with Siddharth.
He said,
“I’m looking forward to this new opportunity of being able to tell a very unique and captivating story on OTT and partnering with Sid Roy Kapur who shares a common creative vision. I truly hope that the viewers enjoy the world of Matka King as much as we are enjoying the process of creating it!”
This collab definitely is exciting and I can’t wait for what they have in-store. Roy Kapur Films has been garnering rave reviews for their last Aranyak on Netflix which has now come into the list of its Top 10 Global TV shows. Now looking forward for the makers to announce the cast of Matka King and more deets! Meanwhile I’m also waiting for Manjule’s Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund which is ready for release.
