Dia Mirza gave a pleasant surprise to her followers last year as the actress got married to businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in February. Two months later, she announced her pregnancy with her first child and then in July she announced the birth of her son Avyaan Azaad Rekhi through a social media post. All these happy developments in Dia’s personal life had me feeling really glad for the actress, but things didn’t go as smoothly throughout, and in a conversation with ETimes, the actress opened up about it.
Avyaan was born prematurely on May 14 and had to be kept in the NICU for two months, and as Dia bid adieu to 2021, she shared a post on Instagram, revisiting the highlights of the year for her, where she mentioned that she also had a near-death experience in 2021.

Speaking about that, Dia shared that she had to go for an appendectomy in the fifth month of her pregnancy. She was in and out of hospital after that because of an acute bacterial infection that could have led to sepsis, while she was in the sixth month of her pregnancy. Avyaan also had to be delivered early because Dia’s placenta had started hemorrhaging. And the actress thanks her gynecologist for pulling her out of that situation and saving her and her baby’s lives.
Today, Dia, Vaibhav and Avyaan make for a picture perfect family, who are happy and healthy. And seeing them like that just fills my heart. While 2021 brought so many new experiences and landmarks for Dia, I just wish that 2022 turns out newer and happier for her and her family.
