After a dull 2020 due to the sudden pandemic and theatres and industry closure, the Hindi film and TV industry entered 2021 with a lot of fear and apprehensions but over the course of the year, that fear changed into confidence and the industry is now ready to close the year with a bang. As a cinema lover, I had missed the rush of the theatres and with the shooting not possible most of the time, even fresh content on digital screens was far and wide. So, the first half of 2021 went a bit slow. But I had really enjoyed the second half of 2021 with so much fresh content being made available and a lot of them path-breaking and heart-wrenching. As it’s custom, IMDb unveiled the top 10 list of movies and shows for 2021 and there are a few surprises and a lot of expected names on that.
Starting with the movies, the list is topped by the Tamil film Jai Bhim, headlined by Suriya, with a rating of 9.5. It premiered digitally on Amazon Prime Video on Diwali this year and is based on a true incident from 1993. The story is about a tribal couple, in which the husband goes missing in police custody and the wife with her lawyer, takes the legal route to find the truth.
The second spot was also achieved by a direct-to-digital release on Amazon, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s Shershaah with a rating of 8.7, which is also personally my favourite film of the year. The film reinvented Sidharth’s image giving him his career-best performance and was widely appreciated all around. Not much far behind, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, which brought theatres back to business this Diwali, bagged the third spot with a rating of 6.5.

The rest of the Top 10 had three regional films—Master, Karnan and Drishyam 2. Whereas Sardar Udham, Mimi, Shiddat and Haseen Dillruba rounded up the Top 10.
In the web series list, TVF Aspirants emerged the winner with a rating of 9.7. The show depicting the life of three UPSC aspirants and their struggle with life, friendship and the exam, connected a lot with the audience. The show was made available for free on YouTube. Bhuvan Bam’s acting debut Dhindora where he portrayed multiple characters by himself, took the second spot with a rating of 9.7 again. It was Followed closely by Manoj Bajpayee’s The Family Man 2 at the third spot. The show gave a successful debut to Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the Hindi film industry as her performance as the silent yet fierce Raji was lauded by everyone.

The rest of the list was rounded up by The Last Hour, Sunflower, Candy, Ray, Grahan , November Story and Mumbai Diaries 26/11.
As I look at both the lists, I realise that I have watched almost half of the content on there, and I have loved every bit of them all. And before the year ends, I intend to convert this figure of 50 percent to 80 percent at least. So, if even you are falling short of your content quota for the year, here is the list on how to go about it.
