Skincare is the best form of self-care but it can get really tricky based on what suits your skin, the availability of ingredients and so much more. Dry skin is synonymous with winters and more often than not home remedies are the best way to help you deal with breakouts, get fresh and glowing skin and hydrate your skin. There is never too much you can do for skincare and masks are the easiest way to begin with, especially when everything you need is available in your home kitchen. Simple, effective and super affordable!
1) Cucumber & Aloe Vera Gel
Roughly chop some cucumbers and grind them in a thick paste, don’t use water. Add a dollop of freshly squeezed aloe vera gel (avoid using the store-bought ones) in the paste and mix well. Apply a thin layer on your face and leave it on for 15-20 mins. Rinse your face with lukewarm water. Cucumber hydrates your skin and creates a natural moisturizer for dry skin, making it glow and remove excess heat. Combined with aloe gel, it acts as the perfect face mask to hydrate, exfoliate and remove impurities to give you fresh skin.
2) Dried Orange Peel
The next time you eat an orange, save the peels for another time. Take the peels and leave them to dry in the sun. After they are completely dried and have lost all moisture, grind them until you get a fine powder. Take a spoon of the powder, mix it with cold milk and apply it on your face, avoid applying it around your eyes, on wounds or scratches as the citrus factor might make it burn. Keep the mask on for a good 15-20 minutes and rinse it off. Orange peel helps remove impurities and makes your skin glow. It is rich in Vitamin C and is the perfect citrusy substitute to hydrate your skin.
3) Banana & Honey
In a bowl, crush your bananas and add a fair amount of honey, mix well and apply a thin layer on your face. Leave it on for a while before washing it off with lukewarm water. Bananas are very rich in antioxidants and they help prevent fine lines and wrinkles, make your skin soft, supple and kill dryness.
4) Turmeric & Gram Flour
Turmeric and gram flour is an age-old tradition. In a bowl, mix gram flour with a small pinch of turmeric and mix with cream of full-fat milk. Make sure you add a very small amount of turmeric because it leaves colour and may end up staining your skin yellow. Apply the paste on the skin and leave it on for no longer than 10-15 minutes. Rinse it off and you’ll have fresh and glowing skin. Gram flour has a high zinc content which is known to fight acne and soothes inflamed skin. Turmeric on the other hand is the best ingredient to help you get flawless and glowing skin.
5) Papaya & Milk
In a bowl, crush papaya to get a fine paste, mix it with milk, apply it on your face and leave it on for 15-20 mins before rinsing it off. Papaya helps decrease inflammation and reduces small bumps that form on the skin. Papayas also help exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and instantly give you bright and fresh skin.
Note: Before you put any mask on your face, try a small patch on your hand to check for an allergic reaction.
