In our 30s, our bodies go through a lot of changes. It is extremely important to prioritise health during these years, so that we can continue enjoying sound health through our 40s and beyond. So, we reached out to Dietician Vidhi Chawla, Founder of Fisico Diet Clinic, and asked her to share some tips to help us maintain our health through our 30s. Read on to know all that she shared!
Balance Your Weight
It is important to maintain your weight according to your BMI index. With increasing age, your metabolism starts to dip, and lean muscle mass will decrease, leading to easier weight gain and more difficult weight loss. Therefore in your 30s, it’s imperative to make healthy choices.
Prioritise Your Workout
Start with exercising regularly; you will be more efficient and feel better. Morning workouts are the best and highly recommended as you will feel more energetic and rejuvenated, and be more creative at work. Make sure to involve muscle and bone-strengthening exercises in your workout.
Prioritise Me-Time
It is important to keep our bodies and mind in sync for them to function efficiently. When they aren’t in sync, it becomes a major source of stress. Take some time out for yourself each day, even if it’s only for a short time. indulge in something you enjoy…take yourself on a date or draw yourself a bubble bath!
Maintain Gut Health
As we grow older, the condition of our digestive system changes as our body parts start ageing too. We endure diminished amounts of pancreatic, gastric, and other secretions that help with digestion. We can maintain gut health by eating foods that will enhance and protect gut flora such as yoghurt, kimchi, cheese, banana, apple, garlic, etc.
Relax
With a busy schedule, it’s important that relaxation be a part of your daily life. It will improve your stress levels and reduce the risk for illnesses in the future. Try spiritual workouts such as yoga or meditation at least twice a week.
Maintain Bone Health
Bones start to become thinner as people grow older because the existing bone cells are reabsorbed by the body faster than new bone is made. All people begin losing bone mass after they reach peak bone density at about 30 years of age.
To maintain your bone density, avoid highly salted foods, limit alcohol, and get an adequate amount of vitamins and calcium.
Know Your Family History
Families have a disease or condition that seems to “run in the family”. There are high chances for diseases to be passed on from generation to generation through genes. It is important to understand your risk by learning about your family’s health history. Learn at what age your family members got diagnosed with a disease and get yourself checked for the same much before that age.
