Since the last two years, the OTT space has opened up a number of avenues. From the 70 mm to our personalized screens, the web-space gave us amazing films and its experience was every bit as wonderful as what it would on the celluloid. And I must say, it’s kudos to the actors who ruled the OTT space as much as they did the big screen. From Sidharth Malhotra‘s Shershaah to Nushratt Bharuccha‘s Chhorii, these stories have touched our hearts just the way they would have done on the silver screen. And while the actors made the films a wonderful watching experience, I was amazed to see that the medium was never a concern for them.
Having said that, here are 11 actors who left us amazed with their films:
1.Kriti Sanon – Mimi
It takes some real guts for a young actress to play a mom and battle all the stereotypes. But Kriti Sanon not just shattered those myths, she left me quite impressed with her performance. What I also loved about this film was how it dealt with the issue of surrogacy so tastefully. But my favorite was to see the beautiful journey of a mother and son, the actress took us through. Kriti indeed was a Paramsundari in Mimi.
2. Nushrratt Bharuccha – Chhorii
Other than Kriti, another actress who sported a baby bump in her flm was Nushrratt Bharuccha. In the horror flick, Nushrratt’s perfromance was every bit breathtaking. In fact, it was quit refreshing to see Nushratt in this avatar, and I must say her performance in this film alongwith the story sent chills down my spine.
3. Sidharth Malhotra – Shershaah
The overwhelming journey of Captain Vikram Batra was so well portrayed by Sidharth, that not even for a second did I think, I wasn’t witnessing the man himself. From his feelings for the country to his love for Dimple, Sidharth’s conviction in this role truly made it one of the best performances I have seen on the OTT space.
4. Kartik Aaryan – Dhamaka
Portraying a journalist trying to save the city from a massive destruction, Kartik Aaryan‘s character Arjun Pathak was every bit impressive. What I loved the most about his performance was how throughout the film Kartik took us on a roller coaster of emotions.
5. Sara Ali Khan – Atrangi Re
If I had to give a best actress award this year, it would be to Sara Ali Khan. The actress is truly the hero of 2021, especially after her performance in Atrangi Re. I was totally mid blow with the way Sara played Rinku. What I loved the most was that even though we thought Rinku as the wild child, a girl full of life, it was only towards the end we knew what she was actually going through. Kudos to Sara for playing a difficult part like this so effortlessly.
6. Vidya Balan – Sherni
There are no two ways about how fine an actress Vidya Balan is, and with Sherni I couldn’t help but just fall in love with her all the more. Playing an forest officer and being in the part throughout needs a lot of conviction and that is one thing Vidya has in abundance.
7. Sunny Kaushal – Shiddat
Sunny Kaushal as Jaggi in Shiddat made the film every bit as amazing as it was. He was truly the dark horse of the film whose impeccable act made you fell in love with the character. And I must say a big thank you to Sunny, for, it was his performance that made me believe in the dedication it takes to unconditionally love someone.
8. Vicky Kaushal – Sardar Udham
Playing a character of a stature like that of Sardar Udham and nailing it to the T was something only Vicky Kaushal would do. From gaining the right mannerisms to beautifully getting into the skin of the character, Vicky as Sardar Udham was every bit a delight to watch.
9. Amol Parashar – Sardar Udham
It would be really unfair to not give Amol Parashar the praise he deserves for playing Bhagat Singh’s character so well in Sardar Udham. Every emotion and every dialogue that Amol expressed as Bhagat Singh only impressed me, in fact, the scene where his character is hanged to death, literally touched my soul.
10. Sanya Malhotra – Meenakshi Sundareshwar
Meenakshi Sundereshwar‘s story was as beautiful as it could get. But it was also Sanya Malhotra who left me smitten with her act, defining the modern woman in the best way possible, Meenakshi played by Sanya was the life of the film. From her love for Sundar to her love for Rajnikanth, Meenakshi made sure to leave me with a big smile and it is all thanks to Sanya.
11. Abhishek Bachchan – Bob Biswas
Abhishek Bachchan as Bob Biswas was truly a surprise package. Playing a layered charcater with such ease is somthing that only a brilliant actor like Abhishek can do. And after seeing him in this avatar I am hoping to see Abhishek in more such roles in the future too.
Well, I have lot of thank you’s to give to all these actors who made my 2021 as entertaining as they could. By being on the OTT space, they were truly just a click away. And now that they have impressed me this year, I am looking forward to see them come with more amazing things in the new year.
