It’s quite rare, even amongst the biggest of superstars, that the name of an actor becomes a genre in itself, but Ayushmann Khurrana achieved that, and that too in a span of just nine years in the film industry. My fasciation with his work began with Vicky Donor, but faded over the years. Although it was reignited with Andhadhun and there was no going back since, just like for the actor’s career. One after the other, Ayushmann became a part of socially relevant films that took up taboo or uncomfortable topics in an entertaining way.
His recent release, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, gave a representation to stories from the trans community. The actor is currently reeling in the love and appreciation it has been receiving, hoping that the film opens up a conversation for the community. He also has an exciting line up ahead of him and in an interview with Pinkvilla, the actor opened up on them.
Talking about his next, Anek, that he believes will be a game changer for him, Ayushmann said:
“Anubhav Sinha is a maverick filmmaker. He is restless and wants to say something. He has got a great voice of his own and wants to address something to the society in his own way. Anek is a political thriller and I look forward to that film. It’s a genre breaker for me.”
Post that, Ayushmann has two more films, about which he said:
“Doctor G is a very youth-oriented film. It shows a lot of student life but has a social commentary too. It’s a great collaboration. There’s also Action Hero, which I start shooting for in London next. Both films are with debutants directors and I love collaborating with first time filmmakers.”
Ayushmann originally transitioned from TV to films and while it took time for him to settle here after an impressive debut, last four years have just established him as a force to be reckoned with. So, one might wonder, if he has given a thought to working on the OTT platform as well after conquering TV and films.
He responded:
“I don’t know about a series at this point of time, but I do think that big screen experience is something else. I think, community viewing is surreal.”
Ayushmann is the true example of where real talent can take you to and I feel proud to belong to a generation that gets to witness such relevant work done by him. Going by the pace that he has undertaken, I am sure Ayushmann is just going to get bigger and better in his craft and I am eager and excited for him to achieve all that he deserves.
