Menstruation can be tough, especially when it comes to cramping. Period days can be the absolute worst and especially when it is combined with bloating, fatigue, nausea and cramps. It’s a million cravings topped with the urge to snap at everyone, watch a rom-com, use up the box of tissues and dive your face in a rich chocolate cake, all while nothing seems to help. Period cramps are normal and happen to almost every other woman and if you aren’t one of them—you should be thanking your stars. But if you do experience them, then a few cuddles and food items can help you relieve them.

1) Drink lots of water

Keep yourself hydrated. This is a motto you should live by. Athletes also live by this to avoid cramping when playing for long hours. Sometimes, your body cramps due to dehydration. Don’t forget to keep drinking water or liquids to keep your body hydrated. It helps you feel fresh and also detoxifies your body.

Ginger is proven to help you relax and ease the pain. Infused in water or with tea, it soothes pain and makes you feel good almost instantaneously. It also helps get rid of bloating, gas and constipation and soothes your stomach when you are feeling nauseous.

3) Bananas, Kiwis and Pineapples

Tropical fruits are the best alternative to fighting inflammation. Bananas have a healthy dose of potassium which helps reduce bloating and reduce cramps. Pineapple helps fight inflammation. Kiwi is good for the stomach, it helps you combat nausea and helps with cramps.

Chamomile Tea is known to relieve muscle spasms and help provide relief from cramps. This drink is free of caffeine and is found to be extremely healthy. It also helps in calming you down and relieves stress.

Dark chocolate works like magic. It satisfies your cravings and helps you beat your sweet tooth. It is rich in antioxidants combined with magnesium and fibre. Always choose a chocolate that has over 85% cocoa compounds.

Oats make for the perfect breakfast meal, they fill you up and are also quite healthy. They are a good source of zinc and magnesium which helps reduce cramps. They also boost the serotonin in the body which helps reduce stress.
