If there is one actor in the industry who has made some amazing film choices, it has to be Varun Dhawan. In the last two years, the actor’s films have done quite well, and now he has a diverse slate of films ready to come up. I am a huge admirer of Varun and I believe he knows what the audience wants from him. Recently, he announced the release date of his family dramedy Jug Jugg Jeeyo as June 24, 2022. Before that, he was to arrive with the horror-comedy Bhediya in April, but seems like the film will have to wait a little bit more before it is ready to come to the big screens.
According to a report in Pinkvilla, while the shoot of the film is already complete, the post-production work, mainly the VFX is taking a little bit more time. So, now the monster comedy’s release, which was earlier announced to be April 14, 2022, has been reportedly pushed by six months so as to attain that finesse in the visual effects. An international crew has been brought on board to design the action scenes and visual effects.
Bhediya has been shot at real locations in Arunachal Pradesh and the surrounding forests. Its visual effects are being done by Moving Picture Company who has previously worked on films like 1917, The Lion King, Harry Potter, The Jungle Book, and Justice League, so my expectations are higher from the project already.
The report further stated that the makers are trying to build something very unique that hasn’t been attempted much in Hindi cinema before. It’s not just a horror-comedy but a monster-comedy and thus to make it worthwhile, the makers might be planning now to release the film in the last quarter of 2022.
Apart from Varun, Bhediya also features Kriti Sanon and Abhishek Banerjee and marks the third film in Dinesh Vijan’s horror universe that already consists of Stree and Roohi. It’s helmed by Stree director Amar Kaushik.
After a family dramedy and monster comedy, Varun also has Ekkis with Sriram Raghavan, a war drama that will see Varun bring Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal alive on screen, followed by an actioner titled Sanki with Sajid Nadiadwala. This is a diverse set of roles and even though Varun might have mastered the commercial comedy space, it’s with choices like these that the actor proves his mettle as an actor and as an admirer of his work, I am truly eager to see him create magic with such choices yet again in the next few years.
