Vicky Kaushal‘s latest film Sardar Udham has gotten the actor some great reviews. But other than praises coming his way, a lot is also being spoken about the actor slipping into late Irrfan Khan‘s shoes for the titular role. For those who don’t know, director Shoojit Sircar‘s first choice for Sardar Udham was Irrfan, but the actor’s ill health and unfortunate demise didn’t let things materialize.
Well, Shoojit went ahead making the film with Vicky, and I am sure the director has no complaints, for the actor has played the part to the T. Now Vicky has spoken about playing the role that was initially meant to be played by an acting legend like Irrfan.
In an interview with the Times Of India, Vicky said,
I never tried matching his standard or fitting into his shoes. It’s impossible to match Irrfan Saab. I have been very hungry to be a part of the world that Shoojit Sircar creates. I have been wanting it since I became an actor. I have been an admirer of his honesty and the bravery with which he narrates a story. It was my good fortune that I became a part of Sardar Udham.
Adding about slipping into the late Irrfan Khan’s shoes, he added,
I had a reality check that I cannot step into Irrfan Saab’s shoes because they are special and they’re made of something else. I knew that I can work to the best of my capabilities, be honest to the process and make this into a tribute to him as a legend who went away too soon. I have lived with a bittersweet feeling from the time I got this opportunity. Some part of me wished that this didn’t happen and the need for me to take up the film didn’t ever arise. A part of my heart always wished that Irrfan Saab should have headlined Sardar Udham.
Well, I can only imagine how Sardar Udham‘s story would have turned out if Irrfan was a part of it, but that doesn’t take away from the fact, that Vicky has done a brilliant job. Now I am excited to see Vicky in some other amazing roles as the actor has Mr. Lele, Sam Bahadur, The Immortal Ashwatthama, and The Great Indian Family in the pipeline.
