Neena Gupta is one actor who has gone on to create a name for herself in the last few years with her great body of work. But this came after a lot of hard work and perseverance on her part, which she talks about in length in her recently released autobiography, Sach Kahun Toh, she speaks in length about that journey and the many things she has learnt about the industry in the past.
Speaking with Outlook India, Neena Ji said:
See, it was always Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, and Deepti Naval who were seen as the face of art-house cinema, and even though Shyam Benegal, Govind Nihalani knew me, but they never saw me as a commercially viable actor.
She also went on to speak about how she thought everyone in the industry was her friend and didn’t know how to conduct herself properly then. She states that no one is your friend here and that everyone is here only to do their job.
She further states:
I couldn’t learn how to talk to people. I was hesitant to persuade people constantly thinking it would push them away more and they’ll end up not talking to me. I was very shy and didn’t know the rules of the business. So, I made plenty of mistakes, and have been made a fool of because I didn’t know any better, I am a ‘ghusudu’. You should know when to exit.

Apart from launching her autobiography, on the work front, Neena Ji is all set to be seen in the second season of the show ‘Masaba Masaba’ alongside her daughter Masaba Gupta. She also will be seen starring opposite Amitabh Bachchan as his wife in the film ‘Goodbye’ that also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Pavail Gulati.
