Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK a.k.a Raj & DK’s ‘The Family Man 2′ series has won hearts all over for being a super gripping sequel — with some great writing, power-packed sequences and some iconic characters. While Manoj Bajpayee as Srikanth Tiwary and Samantha Akkineni as Raji put up a great performance, one character who made his way to all the possible memes around the show was Chellam Sir!
Chellam Sir is a retired agent who helps Srikanth Tiwary with information at critical points in the series so as to counter the impending terrorist attack. To add to all the talk around his character, the director Raj shared some interesting trivia about choosing actor Uday Mahesh for the part.
In a clubhouse session called ‘Inside The Writer’s Room – The Family Man’ moderated by Aniruddha Guha and Janice Sequeira, director Raj shared that before Uday Mahesh was brought on board, another actor was originally cast for the part, but ‘it just wasn’t working out’.
Elaborating about it, he says that the were just prepping to shoot the film then, but it wasn’t working out with the original actor because he was not in the best of his health and that he didn’t really know what was going on because he hadn’t been acting for a long time. He adds that they felt bad about it and didn’t know what to do. And finally, the actor excused himself from the role as he was just not able to get there.
Next, he says they were ‘scrambling’ to find their Chellam Sir. He shares that for a brief second, they almost zeroed in on their writer, Suman Kumar, to play the part as he really liked the character. Raj informs that Suman even got ready with a haircut and everything, but DK vetoed him out saying he doesn’t look anything like the character. And it was after this that they finally found their Chellam Sir.
Well, the wait was worth it, don’t you guys think?
